Your role and responsibilities

IBM z Software Migration team is growing and seeking a Project Manager to oversee the delivery of software migration services to clients across North America. As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the management of large complex projects being executed by various cross‑functional teams as well as vendors and other internal & external resources to deliver on solutions and services. You will interact closely with multiple teams and vendors to define the project parameters and to develop detailed project documentation to outline the project scope, business requirements, project plans, schedules and status.

What you will do:
  • Lead end‑to‑end competitive takeout migration projects involving the mainframe systems (e.g., z/OS, COBOL, DB2), including networking and distributed integrations
  • Develop and manage complex detailed project plans, budgets, timelines, and resource allocations, including cross project and business unit (both Client and IBM) dependencies
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams including infrastructure, application, data, and business stakeholders.
  • Work closely and lead Client and 3rd party service providers, coordinating the overall activities to align to planned milestones.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Facilitate regular status updates, steering committee meetings, technical working sessions and executive briefings.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data integrity, system compatibility, resource (human and technology) availability and business continuity.
  • Assist the Client with their change control processes and ensure smooth transition with minimal disruption.
  • Ensure migration activities adhere to organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and security protocols.
  • Oversee testing, validation, and post‑migration support phases.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including migration strategy, architecture, test plans, important decisions made and lessons learned.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on project health, milestones, and KPIs.
  • Track/Manage Open cases with IBM Support
  • Briefs Project Executive leadership on blocking issues or migration risks/challenges.
  • Provide project management of large complex, multi‑workstream software migration projects for clients on the IBM Z platform
  • Report on project activities, changes in scope, challenges and requirements to the leadership team as a strategic tool in keeping implementers and decision makers moving toward consistent, business or mission‑focused goals and objectives
  • Communicate with IBM and customer management regarding ongoing status, milestones, and project risks
  • Review and analyze processes & procedures to find opportunities for improvement and increased efficiencies, then help drive implementation of these improvements

Required technical and professional expertise
  • Project Management: at least 2 years of technical project management experience
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and confident communicator across technical and non‑technical audiences. This includes worldwide resources and adapting project documentation into formats, syntax and style readily consumable by the Client.
  • Collaboration: Skilled in fostering teamwork and resolving conflicts in cross‑functional environments.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adjusting plans in dynamic settings. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Empathy & Influence: Builds trust, motivates teams, and drives consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying issues and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
Preferred technical and professional experience
  • PMP or PRINCE2 certification
  • Experience with IBM Z software products
  • Experience doing application development on IBM Z, including programming languages like Cobol or PL/1 is a plus
  • Experience with IBM Sites / Tools: Lead to Cash, Invoices, Time@IBM, Analytics Portal, Clarizen
