Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is seeking a supervisory professional to oversee a 3-shift operation on the shop floor. You will supervise skilled trades, organize start-up activities, and ensure compliance with safety regulations while tracking progress and implementing new technologies.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for success. The role requires experience in a unionized shop, proficiency with MS Office, and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• College diploma or apprenticeship with license in machine repair or electrician.
• Strong written and oral communication and analytical abilities.
• Experience in a unionized shop environment is required.
• Willingness to travel 5% Canada, 5% US & Int'l. and maintain a valid passport.
• Ability to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined spaces.
• Demonstrated ability to work steady midnight shift and shiftwork as required.

Responsibilities

• Organize jobs for shift start and ensure safety regulations are followed.
• Prepare daily reports and track progress including implementation of new technologies.
• Document problems, review jobs, and maintain a clean operating area.
• Manage budgets and maintain accurate employee records.
• Communicate with Production on breakdowns, status, and equipment availability.
• Maintain equipment uptime and follow up on all requests.
• Ensure a clean and tidy work area for the group.
• Troubleshoot mechanical problems on machinery and equipment.
• Note: significant overtime and weekend work; supervisory duties such as payroll/attendance.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5-7 years experience working in a unionized shop environment


• Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)


• Excellent communication (written, oral and listening) and analytical skills


• Strong organizational/administrative skills, including being a self-starter


• Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport


• Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space


• Ability to work steady Midnight shift and ability to works shiftwork as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Skilled trades supervision experience

• 8 years shop floor work experience
