Job summary

Somerset West Community Health Centre seeks a Site Supervisor, Headstart Child Care to lead daily operations at our Headstart program. You will provide pedagogical leadership, foster inclusion, and maintain a safe, engaging learning environment for toddlers and preschoolers.

Reporting to: Manager of Children and Youth Services

Job Type: Permanent, 1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)

Department: Family and Community Services

Location: Currently, Nanny Goat Hill Nursery School

Reporting to: Manager of Children and Youth Services

Compensation: $57,020.60–$67,249.00 annually, plus up to $2.00 per hour in Wage Enhancement funding for 2026, if applicable. SWCHC also offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes paid time off, health benefits, life insurance and participation in the HOOPP pension plan.

What the Program Entails

The Headstart Child Care program provides a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where toddler- and preschool-aged children can learn, grow and thrive through responsive, play-based learning. Guided by Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Registered Early Childhood Educators in Ontario, the program supports each child’s development, well-being and individual needs.

Educators work closely with families, community partners, other professionals and inspectors to create meaningful learning experiences, monitor children’s progress, and provide safe, high-quality, family-centered care.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services, the Site Supervisor, Headstart Child Care, oversees daily operations, provides pedagogical leadership, and fosters a culture of inclusion, well-being, engagement and belonging. The Site Supervisor helps maintain a safe and welcoming early-learning environment while building collaborative relationships with children, families, staff and community partners. This role combines direct program delivery with daily administrative responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For

Life and Work Experience

• Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in licensed early learning and childcare settings, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
• Demonstrated experience supporting children and families with diverse strengths, needs, cultures, languages, and lived experiences

Your Education Path

• Early Childhood Education Diploma
• Current CPR level C certificate
• Standard First Aid certificate
• Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
• Meets requirements and achieves approval from the Ministry of Education as on site supervisor
  

Required Language

• Fluency in English required
• Ability to speak French preferred

Other Requirements

• Safe Food Handlers Certification
• Criminal Reference Check for working with vulnerable populations no older than 6 months
• Up to date immunization record as per the Child Care and Early Years Act

What You Bring to the Table

• Strong knowledge of child development and inclusive practices, trauma informed approaches, and relationship based care
• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, Ministry of Education licensing requirements, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, for registered early childhood educators in the province of Ontario
• Proven leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, communication, and team-building skills
• Strong organizational, administrative, and problem solving abilities
• Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position, with accommodation available in accordance with applicable legislation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems

Your Day-to-Day at a Glance

• Support and mentor educators in planning, delivering, documenting and evaluating responsive, play based learning experiences aligned with the Child Care and Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen? and early childhood education principles.
• Help coordinate daily program operations, facilitate team meetings and make operational decisions in consultation with the Manager.
• Provide day to day onsite supervision and act as a problem solving resource for staff, assuming the Manager’s responsibilities in their absence.
• Coordinate, orient and supervise volunteers, students and relief staff, assign tasks, monitor completion and maintain required supervision documentation.
• Observe and assess children’s development, progress and behaviour, collaborating with families and professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists and mental health workers.
• Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers regarding their child’s needs, progress and participation in the program, and build connections with childcare professionals and community partners.
• Ensure children’s health, safety and wellbeing throughout all activities and routines, including meals, toileting, diapering, dressing and indoor and outdoor play.
• Support administrative and operational requirements, including registrations, attendance, record management, daily logs, fire drills, purchasing, reconciliations, statistical reporting and compliance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures.
• Participate in program planning and evaluation, staff meetings, professional development, Centre initiatives and the ongoing improvement of policies, procedures and services.
• Perform Bus Monitor, housekeeping and other related duties as operationally required.
