Job description

About Atkinson Construction

Atkinson Construction is a growing, employee-owned general contracting firm based in St. Albert, Alberta. We deliver high-quality construction across Western Canada — commercial developments, multi-family residential, recreational facilities, public infrastructure, and supportive housing. We build with purpose, lead with integrity, and invest deeply in the people who make our projects possible. Learn more at www.buildwithacl.com.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects out of our Edmonton region. This role is best suited to candidates who are comfortable with out-of-town work and travel to project sites across Western Canada, as required. This is a senior leadership role for someone who is equally at home running a complex multi-trade site as they are mentoring a young carpenter or walking through a design challenge with an architect.

At Atkinson Construction, Site Superintendents are the backbone of our delivery. You'll be accountable for safety, quality, schedule, and the culture on your site — and you'll have the full support of an experienced project management team behind you.

What We Offer
  • Competitive rate of pay for an experienced Site Superintendent
  • Comprehensive benefits through Open Circle
  • Bonus pay opportunities
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
  • Employee-owned company — your contributions are recognized and rewarded
  • Diverse project portfolio spanning Western Canada
  • A high-performing, collaborative team with a real commitment to professional growth
The Work You'll Be Doing

Operating out of the Edmonton area, you'll be involved in a diverse range of commercial and institutional projects — including mixed-use developments, supportive housing, civic buildings, and other complex general contracting scopes. This position requires openness to out-of-town work, with travel to project sites across Western Canada as needed. Our projects vary in scale and sector, and you'll have the opportunity to work on projects that make a tangible difference to the communities we serve across Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all on-site activities and maintain consistent progress toward project milestones and quality targets
  • Collaborate with Project Management and Estimating teams to resolve design, engineering, and construction challenges proactively
  • Coordinate, supervise, and inspect work of ACL staff and all subcontractors
  • Prepare daily site reports, safety documentation, and submit records to head office
  • Oversee site cleanliness, organization, security, and after-hours access coordination
  • Monitor and approve on-site time tracking for ACL staff
  • Identify and report equipment needs; ensure only trained personnel operate machinery
  • Mentor, train, and develop site staff
  • Coordinate manpower and equipment logistics to support company-wide objectives
  • Schedule and lead regular site meetings with subcontractors and office staff
  • Order and track materials; maintain awareness of contract scope and lead times
  • Review workmanship quality, enforce contract compliance, and lead deficiency resolution
Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on construction experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or site leadership role
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong understanding of Alberta Building Code and construction best practices
  • Broad scope experience: framing, concrete forming and finishing, rebar, siding systems, thermal and moisture protection, millwork, interior and exterior finishing
  • Ability to manage temporary utilities and site setup
  • Effective trade coordination, scheduling, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong communication skills with owners, architects, consultants, and trades
  • Proven safety leadership — COR familiarity is an asset
  • Valid driver's license with clean driver's abstract
  • Must be comfortable and willing to travel for out-of-town work, with accommodations coordinated as required for project sites across Western Canada
Preferred Attributes
  • Passion for mentoring and developing others
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Solution-focused mindset — you see problems before they happen and respond proactively
  • Leadership presence that earns respect and builds team cohesion
