Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Site Safety Advisor for a 6-month contract. The role will provide on-site safety leadership during construction and commissioning, coordinating with construction managers, contractors, and safety teams to ensure Saskatchewan OHS compliance and best practices.

The successful candidate will drive proactive risk management, oversee contractor safety performance, and foster a strong safety-first culture across all project activities.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial construction safety roles.
  • NCSO certification required.
  • Strong experience with large industrial, energy, heavy construction, or major capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety performance.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site safety leadership across construction and commissioning.
  • Oversee contractor HSE programs and ensure alignment with standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and field observations to verify controls.
  • Track safety performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and track actions to completion and provide safety recommendations.
  • Support safety program development, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

Job description

Insight Global is looking for a Site Safety Advisor to join one of their clients on a 6 month contract. The successful proponent will be responsible for providing on-site safety leadership throughout all phases of construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will play a key role in proactive risk management, contractor oversight, regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety-first culture.

This individual will work closely with Construction Managers, Project Managers, contractors, and corporate safety teams to ensure all project activities are executed safely and in accordance with company standards, Saskatchewan OHS legislation, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
Construction Safety Leadership
  • Oversee contractor HSE programs and bridging documents to ensure alignment with project and corporate safety standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and field observations to verify safety controls are effective.
  • Build and maintain a positive safety culture through regular engagement with project leadership, supervisors, contractors, and workers.
  • Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators.
  • Monitor and provide oversight of high-risk activities including:
  • Heavy lifts and crane operations
  • Confined space entry
  • Tie-ins and shutdown activities
  • Commissioning and startup operations
  • Respond to incidents, near misses, and safety events in a timely manner.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Develop and track corrective and preventive actions through to completion.
  • Provide recommendations to improve safety performance and reduce risk exposure.
Safety Program Support
  • Provide interpretation and application of company safety programs, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Saskatchewan OHS legislation and applicable industry regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of safety programs and practices.
Communication & Engagement
  • Provide daily support to workers, supervisors, and management regarding safe work practices and requirements.
  • Deliver regular safety communications, lessons learned, and safety alerts.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and monthly safety discussions.
Required Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial construction safety roles.
  • NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) certification minimum requirement.
  • Strong experience working on large industrial, energy, heavy construction, or major capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety performance.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience on refinery, energy, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, or large industrial construction projects.
  • CRSP designation or working toward certification.
  • Commissioning and startup safety experience.
  • Experience working in owner-representative safety roles.
