Job summary

CGI Constructors is seeking a Site Safety Leader in Winnipeg to drive safety on site, coach teams, and uphold regulatory compliance. You will partner with project leadership to embed safe work practices in planning, execution, and daily activities across commercial construction sites.

The role requires 3–5 years in health and safety in construction, WHMIS, fall protection, and excellent communication. Travel to multiple project sites may be needed and a comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, construction management, or related field.
• Three to five years of progressive health and safety experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or civil construction.
• Working knowledge of OH&S legislation and construction regulations in jurisdiction of work.
• Recognized health and safety designation such as NCSO is an asset.
• Current First Aid and CPR; WHMIS, fall protection, or working at heights training.
• Experience conducting inspections and investigations, and facilitating safety documentation.
• Experience using Procore is considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a consistent, highly visible field presence and reinforce health and safety expectations.
• Partner with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, supervisors, workers, and subcontractors to integrate safety into planning and execution.
• Coach employees and trade partners on safe work practices and hazard awareness.
• Exercise stop-work authority when hazards arise and support safe restart of work.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits covering PPE, fall protection, scaffolds, and equipment.
• Participate in pre-construction planning, risk assessments, and review of safe work procedures.
• Document deficiencies and assign corrective actions; monitor completion and escalate high-risk items.
• Verify permits, inspections, equipment certifications, and safety documentation are current and available.
• Ensure workers have required training and maintain training records.
• Communicate safety alerts and regulatory updates clearly to project teams.
• Respond to incidents and coordinate emergency response when required.
• Lead or support investigations and develop corrective actions with leadership.
• Complete incident reports and maintain required documentation on time.
• Cooperate with regulators, clients, consultants, and others as needed.
• Support health and safety program implementation and compliance with relevant standards.
• Monitor compliance with legislation, codes, and contractual obligations.
• Support Joint Health and Safety Committee activities and improvements.
• Participate in meetings and continuous-improvement initiatives.

You as a Site Safety Leader:

• Maintain a consistent and highly visible presence in the field, model safe work practices, and reinforce the Company's health and safety expectations.
• Partner with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, supervisors, workers, and subcontractors to integrate safety into project planning and daily execution.
• Coach employees and trade partners on safe work practices, hazard awareness, and their responsibilities under applicable legislation and company policies.
• Exercise stop-work authority when an activity presents an imminent or serious hazard and support the safe resolution and restart of the work.
• Conduct regular site inspections, observations, and safety audits covering access and egress, fall protection, scaffolds, ladders, excavations, mobile equipment, lifting activities, housekeeping, personal protective equipment, fire prevention, and other project-specific risks.
• Participate in pre-construction planning, job hazard analyses, field-level risk assessments, and the review of safe work procedures for high-risk activities.
• Document deficiencies, assign corrective actions, monitor completion, and escalation overdue or high-risk items to project leadership.
• Verify that required permits, inspections, equipment certifications, and safety documentation are current and available on site.
• Confirm that workers have the required training, qualifications, and competency for assigned tasks and maintain accurate training records.
• Communicate safety alerts, lessons learned, regulatory updates, and project expectations in a clear and practical manner.
• Respond promptly to incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, environmental events, and unsafe conditions; secure the scene and coordinate immediate care or emergency response as required.
• Lead or support investigations, identify root causes and contributing factors, and develop corrective and preventive actions with project leadership.
• Complete and maintain incident reports, inspection records, statistics, meeting minutes, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
• Support required notifications and cooperate with regulators, clients, consultants, and other authorized parties, in coordination with management.
• Support implementation of the Company's health and safety program, project safety plan, emergency response plan, and client-specific requirements.
• Monitor compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, codes, industry standards, and contractual obligations.
• Support Joint Health and Safety Committee or worker representative activities, where applicable, and follow up on recommendations.
• Participate in project meetings, subcontractor meetings, audits, and continuous-improvement initiatives; track trends and recommend practical risk-reduction measures.

• Adaptable and ability to work in fast-paced environments, within tight deadlines while maintaining safety and high-quality standards.
• Valid driver's licence and the ability to travel to or between project sites, as required.
