PTAG is seeking a Site Cost Controller to support mining capital projects on a major underground development in Canada. You will lead cost control, forecasting, and commercial governance in the Owner’s IMT, on a site-based roster.

The role requires hands-on cost management expertise, strong SAP/Contruent proficiency, and collaboration with construction managers, procurement, and finance to ensure budget integrity and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant project experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Cost management & reporting: manage budgets, commitments, costs, accruals, and EAC; produce monthly forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Change management: support the integrated change process and assess cost impacts of scope/schedule changes.
• Contract & commitment management: monitor and reconcile commitments, review invoices, and ensure alignment with budgets.
• PERs: prepare, review, and validate Purchase Expenditure Requests and funding requests.

The project is a gold and copper mine located in northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and is operated by our client.The mine is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

Your Impact

The Site Cost Controller is a key member of the Owner’s Integrated Management Team (IMT), responsible for providing cost control, change management, forecasting, commitment management, and commercial support for major capital construction activities.The role requires hands‑on site experience, strong construction cost management expertise, and proficiency with enterprise cost management systems, SAP, or similar project controls solutions.

Role & Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Cost Management & Reporting

• Manage assigned construction contracts and work packages from commitment through final closeout, ensuring costs are coded to the correct Control Account in SAP and Contruent.
• Monitor budgets, commitments, actual costs, accruals, forecasts, and estimate-at-completion (EAC), and prepare monthly cost forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Analyze cost variances, provide detailed explanations of significant deviations, and support monthly reporting for project leadership and corporate management.
• Identify cost risks and opportunities and work with package managers to develop mitigation plans.

Change Management

• Support the integrated change management process from identification through approval and implementation.
• Review Potential Change Notices (PCNs), Change Notices (CNs), and budget transfer requests, and assess cost impacts of scope and schedule changes.
• Maintain change registers and ensure approved changes are reflected in project forecasts and budgets.
• Participate in change review meetings and provide cost control input to stakeholders.

Contract & Commitment Management

• Monitor and reconcile contract commitments between SAP, Contruent, and supporting procurement systems.
• Review commitment accuracy and ensure alignment with approved budgets and authorized funding.
• Support contract administration activities and assist in validating contractor claims, progress payment applications, and invoices.
• Track outstanding commitments and ensure timely closure of completed commitments.

Purchase Expenditure Requests (PERs)

• Prepare, review, and validate Purchase Expenditure Requests (PERs) and funding requests.
• Verify budget availability and appropriate WBS/cost coding prior to commitment authorization.
• Ensure supporting documentation complies with project governance and delegation of authority requirements.
• Support procurement and package managers throughout the commitment approval process.

Accruals & Month-End Close

• Coordinate monthly vendor accruals and incurred cost reporting and review contractor accrual submissions against field progress and contract status.
• Reconcile accruals between SAP, Contruent, and finance reports.
• Review contractor cost flow forecasts and update the cost flow forecast file.
• Support month-end close processes, including cost validation and reporting submissions, and investigate and resolve discrepancies between commitments, invoices, accruals, and actual costs.

Site Interface & Stakeholder Coordination

• Act as the primary cost control focal point for assigned site packages, working closely with Construction Managers, Package Managers, Field Supervisors, Procurement, Finance, Logistics, and contractors.
• Coordinate cost codes for work orders and prepare cross-over notes.
• Participate in weekly and monthly package review meetings, and support project audits, governance reviews, and management reporting requirements.
• Promote data quality and compliance with project cost management procedures.

Qualifications / Requirements

To succeed in this role, you bring:

Education

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant project experience will be considered.

Experience

• Max 10 years of cost control experience on large capital projects.
• Minimum 3 years of site-based project controls or construction cost management experience.
• Experience working within an Owner's Team, Mining Company, Energy, Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, or Major Industrial Project environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing construction contracts valued at multiple millions of dollars.
• Experience supporting project change management processes and forecasting activities.

Systems & Technical Skills

• Advanced experience with Contruent (formerly Prism), EcoSys, or equivalent enterprise cost management software.
• Strong SAP experience, including commitments, purchase orders, service entry sheets (SES), and invoice processing.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze large datasets.
• Experience with Power BI, Primavera P6, or integrated project controls systems is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of forecasting and EAC development, cost flow analysis, earned value principles, change management, construction progress measurement, commitment management, and project governance processes.

• Familiarity with integrated Owner/EPCM project delivery models.
• Working knowledge of AACE International recommended practices.
• Experience with large-scale capital projects exceeding CAD $500M.

Your Work Environment

The position is expected to be based on site and operate on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off roster, supporting site-based activities.Travel arrangements are coordinated to ensure safe and reliable access to site.Pay Range for Role: $70–$80/hCompensation at PTAG varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set and level of experience.
