Job summary

Giant Tiger is seeking a nights Shunter at our Johnstown, Ontario distribution facility. This role requires a valid AZ/Class 1 license with 3+ years of driving, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work in all weather conditions.

You will join a team focused on safe, efficient yard operations and continuous improvement. Expect continental 12‑hour shifts (6pm–6am) on a 2‑2‑3 cycle with static days/nights and a competitive hourly wage.

• Valid AZ or Class 1 license with 3+ years of verifiable driving experience.
• Safety‑minded with clean CVOR abstract and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform yard shunting to support outbound delivery mandates.
• Conduct pre/post trip inspections to maintain fleet safety.
• Direct equipment into in‑service queue for repairs.
• Record reefer hours and hub odometer readings.
• Coordinate with dispatch to report yard or equipment issues.
• Improve yard flow with Transportation team collaboration.
• Provide shunting relief for Brockville Distribution Center.
• Assist with winter yard operations and training opportunities.

About This Role: Are you ready to work for the best fleet in Eastern Ontario? Giant Tiger (GT Wholesale) is looking for dynamic individuals to join one of Canada’s largest iconic retail brands as a Shunter! Giant Tiger Trucking has an exciting opportunity for Licensed AZ Drivers to join our Yard Shunt Team based out of our Johnstown, Ontario Distribution Facility. We are looking for experienced drivers who are looking to learn new skills and become peer leaders. Our shunters aren’t just shunters - they are critical in our best-in-class safety system.

What You’ll Do:

• Performing yard shunting duties to help with outbound delivery mandate.
• Perform Pre & Post Trip Inspections playing a direct role in safety of the fleet.
• Direct equipment into out of service queue for repair.
• Responsible to track and record reefer hours and Hub Odometer Readings.
• Local radius hiking of equipment to vendor service providers.
• Work closely with Dispatch to report issues in the yard or equipment.
• Working with Transportation Team to improve yard flow management and efficiencies.
• Provide shunting relief coverage for our Brockville Distribution Center.
• Assist with winter control operations in yard using various equipment and machinery.
• Ability to grow in position learning new skills like B-Trains, LCV, Converter Dollies, ETC.
• Additional workload available across Tiger Trucking.

What You’ll Bring:

• Shunting experience & knowledge of transportation functions.
• Possess a valid AZ or Class 1 license and 3 years of verifiable driving experience.
• Newly licensed drivers may be considered for in-yard positions and training opportunities based on operational needs and successful completion of our internal evaluation process.
• Safety first mentality with clean drivers abstract / CVOR Abstract.
• Ability to perform manual labor and work in all weather conditions.
• Very strong knowledge of Shipping & Transportation functions.
• Excellent communication & Strong problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attitude and a willingness to learn new things.
• Superior decision-making skills, ability to handle fast paced situations.
• Ability to help peer mentor and coach newly hired drivers.
• Self‑motivated in keeping 200 trailers organized.
• Ability to drive in all conditions including, rain, snow, sunlight and darkness is needed.
• Possess the understanding and ability to drive Manual Transmissions.

When You’ll Work:

• This position will be for our PM Shunt Crew with a shift of 6pm - 6am.
• You will be working continental 12 Hour Shifts (6:00PM-6:00AM) based on a two-week 2-2-3 shift pattern with static days and static nights - no days to nights or nights to days.
