Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Short Order Cook at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital in the Eastern Zone to prepare fresh to order patient meals within a fast-paced line cooking team. You will handle ingredient control, portioning and production for patient menus while following safety, cost control, and allergy standards.

The role requires Grade 12, a Food Safety course, and at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Recognized Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain within six months.
• One year related experience required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills with ability to work under time pressures.
• Physical capability to perform duties including heavy lifting and standing for long periods; ability to work weekends and rotating shifts.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.

About The Opportunity

The Short Order Cook is responsible for preparing fresh to order room service menu items for patients, clients and customers within a fast paced line cooking team environment. The Short Order Cook is responsible for the ingredient control of recipes which includes the measuring and portioning of recipe ingredients and the production of food items for the patient menu. The Shot Order Cook is also responsible for following: cost control procedures, safe food handling procedures, therapeutic, allergy and menu standards, and providing overall customer service according to departmental standards.

About You

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including ability to follow written and oral instructions required
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other in a team environment
• Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills and ability to work under pressures of time limitations
• Physical capability to perform duties of position including heavy lifting, withstanding demands of walking and standing during shift, working in an environment with heat and temperature fluctuations, as well as the ability to work weekend and rotating shifts as assigned
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation And Benefits

$23.25 - $25.84 Hourly
