Job summary

BWXT Canada Ltd. in Cambridge, Ontario, is seeking a Shop Supervisor to lead daily shop activities, ensure safety, quality, and productivity, and manage a team in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety compliance and lead safety meetings, toolbox talks and audits.
• Schedule achievement: coordinate with schedulers and communicate plans to shop staff.
• Manage shop personnel and attendance, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Monitor production levels, balance shop needs, and drive cost improvement initiatives.
• Oversee training to ensure adherence to BWXT procedures and quality objectives.

Position Overview

Our Shop Supervisors lead and supervise the day‑to‑day activities of the shop personnel and ensure that all company objectives are met in regard to safety, quality, productivity and cost. Reporting to the Focused Shop Manager, all shop personnel

Your Day To Day As Shop Supervisor

Safety Compliance

• Hold safety meetings, perform monthly safety audits and issue work orders to maintenance for any malfunctioning or unsafe machinery.
• Hold toolbox talks at the beginning of each shift to heighten awareness of safety during the work day.
• Perform accident investigations with JHSC and EHS as required, ensure personal protective equipment is in place as well as train employees on the use of personal protective equipment.
• Conduct safe observations through the Dupont Safety Observation Program.

Schedule Achievement

• Know and try to achieve on time delivery.
• Work with Schedulers to achieve daily targets.
• Order any special tools required and work with design/manufacturing engineers to design fixtures and to resolve any deficiencies with components.
• Perform temporary transfers of employees.
• Ensure schedules are communicated to shop personnel and best efforts are conveyed to achieve schedule commitments through ToolBox Talks, Pre-Job Briefings and individual interface(s).

Manage Shop Personnel

• Manage shop personnel according to collective agreement and maintain a professional relationship with employees.
• Manage attendance, time, and vacation of shop personnel and able to perform manual computer inputting to verify employee statuses.
• Provide coaching and issue discipline, as needed.

Cost Objectives

• Monitor production levels at the individual machines.
• Ability to provide computer manual labour inputs with accuracy and recognition of balancing shop needs.
• Develop and initiate cost improvement activities, regularly reviewing productivity reports and discussing the required expectations with employees.

Training

• Ensure all employees are trained in BWXT’s procedures and support quality objectives and safety objectives.

Required Qualifications

• College Diploma (Technical, Welding Technician, Fitter, Fabricator, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel. Experience with SAP is an asset.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $88,000 and $129,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/ or other benefits.
