Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations (morning or afternoon shifts) of our structural steel fabrication facility. The successful candidate will lead production planning, manpower allocation, and workflow coordination to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong background in structural steel fabrication, proven leadership abilities, and hands-on experience managing teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage daily operations of the steel fabrication shop.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of fabricators, fitters, welders, and support staff.
  • Ensure all fabrication meets CWB, CSA, and AISC standards and project specifications.
  • Oversee production scheduling, material flow, and resource allocation to maintain efficiency and productivity.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Quality Control, and Engineering teams to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Monitor progress and provide daily/weekly production reports.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and company safety policies.
  • Manage training, performance evaluations, and employee development.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding of new shop personnel.
  • Review drawings and identify fabrication challenges before production begins.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and ensure the facility operates efficiently.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and safety.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of CWB, CSA W47.1/W59, and AISC fabrication and welding standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication and erection drawings.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Tekla PowerFab or equivalent fabrication management software is a strong asset.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
  • CWB supervisory or Level 1 certification considered an asset.
