Job description

Our Distribution group is currently seeking a Shop Lead Hand to join our Fleet team based in North Battleford, SK.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Support Services, this position is responsible for leading and coordinating all fleet shop activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment. This role operates within the fleet maintenance framework, ensuring that operations meet Valard’s high standards for safety, quality, and operational readiness. The position also provided leadership, mentoring, and hands‑on support to mechanics and technicians, ensuring the fleet remains fully operational to support project execution.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and assign daily tasks to shop personnel, ensuring workflow efficiency
  • Mentor and train mechanics and technicians in safe and technically proficient work practices
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy / light‑duty vehicles and equipment
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and provide solutions
  • Ensure all maintenance work meets safety standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer specifications
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and hazard assessments
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant shop environment
  • Ensure adherence to company and regulatory safety standards
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, and certifications
  • Coordinate parts sourcing, vendor services, and inventory control
  • Assist the Fleet Supervisor/Manager with continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field (i.e. Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician)
  • 5 years of hands‑on experience with fleet maintenance procedures
  • Valid Class 5 (or applicable) driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Demonstrated familiarity with fleet management software and digital record‑keeping
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, and industry best practices
