Job summary

Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a sewing machine operator to join our manufacturing team. The role involves operating sewing equipment, following zone procedures, and ensuring panels are stitched to spec with appropriate labels and tickets.

Applicants should be able to stand at a sewing machine, lift up to 50 lbs, and maintain high efficiency in a Make-To-Order system. Training is provided for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Basic English reading/writing skills required.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Previous sewing machine experience in an industrial environment is preferred and training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Push cart of panels to machine and follow Zone integrity.
• Remove panel from stack and position under sewing machine foot.
• Check ticket for sizing and measure panel.
• Activate machine and sew flange to panel and overcast edge in one operation around perimeter.
• Insert and sew in legal label and production ticket on every other panel; mark IDs on tickets.
• Add thread, replace needles, oil machine, and fix thread breaks as needed.
• Monitor stitching to detect defects and repair; inspect panels before and after sewing.
• Notify supervisor if defects are caused by machine malfunction.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area.
