Job Title: Settlements Analyst

Location: Calgary, AB

Length: 6-month contract

Rotation: Mon-Fri

Description:

The client is seeking a Settlements Analyst for a 6-month contract position within their Energy Marketing & Asset Settlements team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Energy Marketing + Asset Settlements, the Settlements Analyst will be responsible for invoicing, billing, settlement activities, and revenue assurance related to energy marketing and generation contracts. The role ensures accurate invoice calculations, timely billing to the client’s customers, payments to vendors, and proper recording of financial entries.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to settlements and invoicing, coordinating solutions with cross-functional teams and external counterparties.
  • Prepare and process wire requests and customer payments.
  • Execute month-end and quarter-end procedures.
  • Interpret electricity pool settlement data and apply market knowledge to generate accurate statements and supporting documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of SOX controls, compliance requirements, regulatory considerations, and internal policies; escape risks as needed.
  • Manage small projects and continuous‑improvement initiatives while meeting operational targets.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, providing backup and support within the Settlements group.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues efficiently.
  • Collaborate with other analysts to ensure invoices and payments are accurately captured in the accounting system.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, ensure timely payment allocation, and follow up with customers on outstanding balances.
  • Maintain and update payment calendars to support cash forecasting and management.
Qualifications:
  • 2–5 years of experience in energy marketing, commodities trading, or the power industry.
  • Post‑secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience querying databases (SQL) is an asset.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple time‑sensitive deliverables.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Growth mindset and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of internal policies, SOX controls, generating assets, commercial contracts, and industry regulations.
