Sessional Lecturer: POL377H1 S, Topics in Comparative Politics I - Emergency Posting

Course Number and Title: POL377H1 S, Topics in Comparative Politics I (Israeli Politics and Society)

Course description: This course examines core social and political dynamics in contemporary Israeli politics from social‑scientific and historical perspectives. The objective of the course is to provide students with a historical background and analytical understanding of contemporary Israeli politics. Attention will be paid to political history, institutions, economic development, coalition formation, ethnic politics, and religious divisions in Israel, examined through the lens of comparative politics.

Delivery method: In‑person (subject to change under current circumstances).

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026

Salary (includes vacation pay):

  • Sessional Lecturers I – $9,820.70
  • Sessional Lecturers I (Long Term) – $10,510.04
  • Sessional Lecturers II – $10,510.04
  • Sessional Lecturers II (Long Term) – $10,760.28
  • Sessional Lecturers III – $10,760.28
  • Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term) – $11,030.36

Please note that, if the rates stipulated in the collective agreement differ from those stated above, the rates in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. required.
  • University‑level teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and mastery of the subject area.
  • Prior experience teaching a similar course.

Description of duties:

  • Prepare course syllabus and marking scheme.
  • Plan and teach weekly lectures.
  • Set and mark assignments, tests, exams, and administer course in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors.
  • Submit grades.
  • Hold office hours for academic counselling of students.
  • Respond to student enquiries, appeals, and petitions.
