    Description:

    Course number and title: MIE507H1 F HVAC Fundamentals

    Course description: Introduction to the fundamentals of HVAC system operation and the relationship between these systems, building occupants and the building envelope. Fundamentals of psychrometrics, heat transfer and refrigeration; determination of heating and cooling loads driven by occupant requirements and the building envelope; heating and cooling equipment types and HVAC system configurations; controls and maintenance issues that influence performance; evaluation of various HVAC systems with respect to energy and indoor environmental quality performance.

    Estimated course enrolment (approximately): 30 students

    Tuesday 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    Sessional dates of appointment: September 2023 – December 2023

    Salary: $13,000 (per half course inclusive of vacation pay) Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

    Minimum qualifications: Applicants should have a strong record of presenting lectures or acting as a teaching assistant. Applicants must be able to demonstrate considerable depth of knowledge and experience in the subject area. All applicants must have excellent communication skills – both oral and written. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or Engineering Intern (EIT) registration required. The successful candidate will be reimbursed for the EIT registration fee.

    Description of duties: Preparation of lectures and course materials; delivery of in-person lectures; supervision of Teaching Assistants; setting and marking of tests and exams; evaluation of final grades; contact with students.
