A leading university in Toronto is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the ITA100Y5Y Beginner Italian course. Course number and title:
An introduction to the language for those with no prior knowledge of Italian. Students learn and practice basic rules of grammar and theme-based vocabulary, and they engage with various aspects of Italian culture.
[NOTE: The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person. However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.]
Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026
Ph.D. in Italian Studies is required.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a closely-related course is required.
Native or near-native, fluency in Italian is required.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated ability in language pedagogy and in Italian cultural studies is preferred.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
