Job summary

The University of Calgary invites applications for a CPSC 319 Sessional Instructor for the Winter 2027 Term. The successful candidate will teach the 3-unit course and oversee TA-led tutorials, with responsibilities spanning lecture delivery and course management.

Applicants should hold at least an MSc in Computer Science (PhD preferred) and have experience with D2L, plus strong assessment practices and student engagement. Priority given to graduate students seeking teaching experience.

The Department of Computer Science within the Faculty of Science invites applications for a CPSC 319 Sessional Instructor for the Winter 2027 Term.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities for lecture instruction, and any other associated course management duties for this 3-unit course, including the supervision and direction of teaching assistants that will deliver the tutorial sections.

Course Description

Computer Science 319 - Data Structures, Algorithms, and Their Applications
CPSC 319 explores fundamental data structures including arrays, lists, stacks, queues, trees, hash tables, and graphs. Algorithms for searching and sorting. Introduction to analysis of algorithms. Applications of these data structures and algorithms. For students wishing to combine studies in computer science with studies in other disciplines.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a minimum of an MSc in Computer Science or a closely related discipline; a PhD is preferred. Experience with the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) course management system, knowledge of best practices for assessments, and techniques for engaging students will be considered assets. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level will also be considered an important asset. Graduate students and postdocs in our program looking to obtain teaching experience will be first considered, followed by applicants with a postgraduate degree.
