Job summary

Brandt Group of Companies is seeking a skilled technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain power equipment at our Mount Pearl location. You will work under the Service Manager, ensuring high productivity, quality workmanship, and compliance with safety standards.

The role requires a trade qualification and 3+ years of experience across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. You will also mentor apprentices and support continuous learning within a team-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, or Truck/Transport.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostics and calibration.
  • Strong time management and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Operate within budgets and approvals set by the Service Manager.
  • Maintain high levels of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
  • Achieve 98% work quality to minimize rework.
  • Perform basic to complex diagnostics on power equipment.
  • Diagnose, disassemble, and repair mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure quality and regulatory standards.
  • Perform maintenance tasks like fluid/filter changes and battery tests.
  • Execute engine and transmission diagnosis or replacement.
  • Maintain product knowledge and safety procedures.
  • Mentor apprentices and oversee their growth.

What You Will Be Responsible For
  • Financial Performance:
    • Operate within budgets and approvals established by the Service Manager.
    • Maintain high levels of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin to contribute positively to branch goals.
    • Achieve and uphold a quality of work metric of 98%, ensuring work is completed correctly the first time to minimize rework and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Diagnostic and Repair Services:
    • Perform basic to complex diagnostics on power equipment to accurately identify repair needs and minimize downtime.
    • Diagnose, disassemble, assemble, and repair mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems to restore optimal equipment performance.
    • Conduct customer, manufacturer, and government-mandated inspections to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
    • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as fluid and filter changes, battery testing, brake system adjustments, and lubrication to prolong equipment life.
    • Execute advanced mechanical repairs, including engine and transmission diagnosis, repair, or replacement, to resolve complex issues.
  • Work Systems and Procedures:
    • Maintain current product knowledge specific to equipment and industry standards relevant to the branch location.
    • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area to ensure efficiency and safety.
    • Follow all safety rules and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards.
    • Ensure compliance with proper procedures for hazardous waste disposal.
    • Work within guidelines set by managers to ensure consistent and quality service delivery.
    • Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager or Service Department Foreman.
    • Participate in required training programs, including industry-specific technology training.
    • Maintain and care for departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles.
    • Mentor and oversee apprentices to support their professional growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We Look For
  • Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Truck/Transport).

  • Possess computer and technical aptitude and knowledge for diagnostics and calibration work.
  • Possess diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and technical equipment repair needs.
  • Possess strong time management skills to perform under pressure.
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and oral.
