Job summary

Brandt Tractor Ltd is seeking a Field Service Technician for our Mont‑Laurier location. The role involves independently diagnosing and servicing customer equipment in field environments, with emphasis on quality and timely problem resolution.

You will maintain equipment knowledge, follow OH&S standards, and mentor apprentices while supporting branch goals and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in heavy equipment, agriculture, or truck/transport sectors.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant field experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools and calibration software.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to high quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to complex diagnostics and repairs on field equipment.
  • Repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems to restore performance.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and tune-ups in field or shop settings.
  • Support apprentices and ensure safe, efficient work practices.

Brandt Tractor Ltd is currently seeking a Field Service Technician for our Mont‑Laurier location.

The Field Service Technician is responsible for independently performing basic to complex diagnostics, service maintenance and repair work on customer equipment efficiently in a field environment, which could include customer shops. They are also responsible for providing quality service to customers and ensuring all issues are resolved satisfactorily and in a timely manner.

What You Will Be Responsible For
Financial Performance
  • Operate within budgets and approvals established by the Service Manager.
  • Maintain high levels of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin to contribute positively to branch goals.
  • Achieve and uphold a quality of work metric of 98%, ensuring work is completed correctly the first time to minimize rework and enhance customer satisfaction.
Diagnostic and Repair Services
  • Perform basic to complex diagnostics on power equipment to accurately identify repair needs and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose, disassemble, assemble, and repair mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems to restore optimal equipment performance.
  • Conduct customer, manufacturer, and government‑mandated inspections to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as fluid and filter changes, battery testing, brake system adjustments, and lubrication to prolong equipment life.
  • Execute advanced mechanical repairs, including engine and transmission diagnosis, repair, or replacement, to resolve complex issues.
Work Systems and Procedures
  • Maintain current product knowledge specific to equipment and industry standards relevant to the branch location.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Follow all safety rules and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards.
  • Ensure compliance with proper procedures for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Work within guidelines set by managers to ensure consistent and quality service delivery.
  • Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager or Service Department Foreman.
  • Participate in required training programs, including industry‑specific technology training.
  • Maintain and care for departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Mentor and oversee apprentices to support their professional growth.

Other duties as assigned.
