Job summary

A leading bus manufacturer in Winnipeg is seeking an Engineer to lead troubleshooting and commissioning activities. POSITION SUMMARY

Accountable for determining root cause and corrective action for issues affecting products in service and implementing corrective actions. This will include all the troubleshooting related activities, revising and uploading the programs, collaborating with vendors, testing in the field, and writing comprehensive Instructions to Service document. Reports directly to Controls Supervisor, Service Engineering.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Lead the execution of commissioning activities, both onsite and/or remote. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues that arise during commissioning.
  • Create and evaluate the service bulletin and service instructions by working cross-functionally with Subject Matter Experts and suppliers.
  • Initiate the transition of road incident in field service action report and task it to the FSAR engineering team to release the test programs.
  • Investigate and resolve product issues of varying complexity by collaborating with vendors and engineering team to implement recommended solutions.
  • Provide support in the development of diagnostic tools in the field to enable efficient serviceability.
  • Provide guidance and propose actionable steps to resolve issues raised by field staff or directly by customers, ensuring adherence to timelines.
  • Support cross-functional efforts to prevent the reoccurrence of known issues in the field.
  • Assess and quantify the benefits of product improvement opportunities. Work with designers to implement the improvement for existing and future products as appropriate.
  • Communicate the root cause and resolution of the technical issues effectively to internal and utility customers as required.
  • Supply Technical Publications Department with updated information for the manuals as well as suggestions on how to improve the information in our manuals.
  • Assists with controlled testing of components and installations to meet contractual obligations, ensure product reliability, and verify component fit.
  • Special assignments as required.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) as Engineer in Training, Professional Engineer, or Certified Engineering Technologist – Electrical.
  • 1 - 2 years’ experience with troubleshooting electrical/electronic, software/firmware, or process failure modes preferred.
  • 1 - 2 years’ experience in PLC programming and familiarity with real-time service and diagnostic tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel.
  • An excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce clear and concise written documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
