Job summary

A consulting firm located in Nova Scotia is seeking an experienced Service Charge Accountant. You will manage client accounts, handle service charge queries, and prepare financial reports. The ideal candidate has over 5 years of experience in service charge accounting, proficiency in QUBE, and excellent communication skills. The role requires office attendance five days a week with competitive holiday benefits.

Job description
Duties
  • Manage client accounts with accuracy and professionalism, ensuring a high standard of service.
  • Handle service charge related customer queries via email and telephone, delivering prompt and effective resolutions.
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new properties, taking ownership from start to finish.
  • Perform and review timely bank reconciliations.
  • Issue monthly or quarterly income and expenditure statements to clients.
  • Manage the daily banking routine.
  • Prepare and issue Service Charge, Ground Rent, Insurance, and Rent demands.
  • Prepare Service Charge year-end or quarter-end accounts. Reviewing them with Property Managers and preparing them up to trial balance for external accountants.
  • Liaise regularly with Property Managers to run supporting reports as required.
  • Monitor workload, set reminders, and meet deadlines set by the business, clients, or line managers.
  • Report progress, challenges, and knowledge gaps, raising urgent matters as they arise.
  • Attend team meetings to discuss workload and departmental updates.
  • Act as the point of contact for customer, tenant, and supplier queries, escalating urgent issues as required.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of service charge accounting experience including within commercial property
  • Experience using QUBE is essential
  • A strong working knowledge of book-keeping practices as well as property management principles and procedures.
  • Excellent soft skills when dealing with people to empathise and understand their needs.
  • MS Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well organised, diligent and able to multi-task.
  • Team player.
Other details:
  • Location: Office based 5 days per week in the West End
  • Hours: 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • Holidays: 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
