Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Treatment Process Engineering professional to join our Water team in Toronto, Mississauga or Ottawa, ON. This role follows a hybrid work model with regular office attendance in Canada’s Ontario cities.

We design municipal water and wastewater facilities, focusing on innovative, compliant solutions, and sustainable infrastructure. The candidate will mentor junior staff and manage project scope, budgets, and client communications across multiple offices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil engineering.
  • P.Eng. licensure with P.E.O.
  • 10 years of experience in wastewater infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake design of municipal servicing projects including water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Coordinate design with municipal/utility agencies and obtain approvals.
  • Liaise with clients, municipalities and agencies to secure approvals.
  • Assist developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Prepare contract documents for construction (drawings and specs).
  • May conduct construction inspection services and construction administration.
  • Provide services during construction including submittal reviews and RFIs.
  • Mentor junior team members on municipal infrastructure design.

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a pipeline of Senior Water/Wastewater Treatment Process Engineering talent to join our Water team in either Toronto, Mississauga or Ottawa ON. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto, Mississauga or Ottawa office.

Our team excels in dams and levees, advanced water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and conveyance, collection, and transmission. With a focus on integrating technology, sustainability, and compliance, we consider each water resources and environmental remediation project a chance to innovate and evolve to protect public health and enhance quality of life.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do
  • Undertake the design of both public and private sector municipal servicing projects (i.e. sewage pumping stations and water booster stations, elevated tanks, reservoirs, and water/wastewater treatment systems) including engineering drawings, engineering reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
  • Coordinate the design with review/input from the various municipal/utility/approval agencies/stakeholders and obtain all necessary approvals.
  • Liaise with clients, municipalities, and other agencies to secure approvals.
  • Assist developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Prepare contract documents for construction (i.e. engineering drawings and specifications).
  • May conduct construction inspection services and construction administration.
  • May provide services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
  • Participate in constructability review.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects.
  • Mentor recently hired junior team members on the various facets of municipal infrastructure design.
  • Prepare portions of engineering project proposals, change orders, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
  • Complete tasks accurately and efficiently with minimum supervision.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil engineering.
  • P.Eng. licensure with P.E.O.
  • 10 years of experience in the execution of wastewater infrastructure (sewer pumping stations, booster pumping stations, reservoir and elevated tanks and water and wastewater treatment plants) projects.

  • Experience with Master Planning, Class EAs and DWWP and/or ECA process in Ontario considered or equivalent in other Provinces is considered an asset.
  • Contract administration experience is considered an asset.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $107,700.00 - $163,000.00 dependent upon experience and geographic location.
