Job summary

Manulife’s Underwriting team seeks Senior Underwriting Consultants for its High Net Worth segment. This remote role serves candidates across Canada, with a $5,000,000+ signing authority and a growth-minded, service-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities include risk assessment, decision support for sales, and strong collaboration with partners. The ideal candidate has 5+ years’ underwriting experience, AML training, and bilingual English/French capabilities where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience.
  • High net worth market experience and authority.
  • Sales and relationship-focused mindset with business development drive.
  • Progress toward or completion of FALU/FLMI/ACS designations.
  • Strong medical terminology knowledge across physiology and pharmacology.
  • Awareness of AML practices and financial reporting basics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Communicate and collaborate with sales and head office colleagues to provide the highest quality and competitive decisions to our high-net-worth customers.
  • Conduct risk assessment and classification by Manulife's philosophy and standards.
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Consistently deliver the best customer experience by making every interaction significant.
  • Align with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality and disclosure.
  • Identify and propose solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience.
  • $5,000,000+ Life signing authority.
  • Experience and exposure working within the high net worth market specifically.
  • Sales and relationship-focused mindset with a drive for earning business and continuing to earn business in this competitive market.
  • Working towards, or completion of FALU, FLMI and ACS designations.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic testing and treatments.
  • Strong knowledge in how non-medical risks impact mortality, including hazardous occupations, sports, avocations and lifestyle.
  • Experience with financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.
  • 100,000+ CI authority.
  • University or college degree in a related discipline such as medical, research or financial.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Interest in representing the company via external presentations, panels, or conferences.
  • Experience in co-signing, referral reviews, mentoring, etc.

Salary range is expected to be between

$85,300.00 CAD - $135,300.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
