Job summary

Echelon Insurance is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to underwrite and price complex new business, endorsements and renewals within binding authority to grow a profitable portfolio.

You will maintain in-force policies with proper wordings and certificates, and develop broker relationships through exceptional service. The role requires 6–10 years in commercial underwriting, strong analytics, English fluency with French as an asset, and ~20% travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 to 10 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
• Post-secondary education in a related field and CIP designation; FCIP/CRM asset.
• Strong product knowledge and understanding of policy wordings; sound decisions.
• Excellent communication in English; French is an asset.

• Underwrite and price new business applications, endorsements and renewals of complex nature on Commercial Lines policies within set binding authority.
• Maintain in-force policies and ensure issuance with proper wordings, schedules and certificates.

• Track and produce daily, weekly and monthly production reports.
• Assist in monthly business activity reporting.

Position Details

What You Will Do

• Underwrite and price new business applications, endorsements and renewals of complex nature on Commercial Lines policies within set binding authority to grow and maintain a profitable portfolio.
• Maintain in-force policies and ensure all policies are issued within service standards with the appropriate wordings, schedules, and certificates attached.
• Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with brokers by providing exceptional customer service
• Work collaboratively to support broker, claims, pricing and accounting inquires
• Provide exceptional customer service by answering telephone inquiries, making outgoing calls, respond to emails and/or faxes as may be required
• Track and produce daily, weekly and monthly production activity reports
• Assist in monthly business activity reporting
• Willingness to travel as some travel is required (20%)

Who You Are

• A minimum of 6 to 10 years experience in commercial lines underwriting
• Post-secondary education in a related field and/or a CIP designation is required. Working towards FCIP or CRM designation is an asset.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with product development and developing underwriting guidelines
• Strong product knowledge and thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings with the ability to make sound business decisions based on those wordings
• Excellent analytical skills and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written; French would be an asset
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Able to effectively set priorities to meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail
• Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish professional relationships
• An advanced level of English is required in addition to French, as this role involves regular communication, both verbal and written, with our clients, partners, and other Echelon Insurance teams across the country.
