Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to join our Western Canada Power Delivery team in Alberta. You will lead high voltage line design projects (34.5kV–500kV), develop plans, and ensure technical excellence across multi-disciplinary teams.

You bring a 10+ year track record in transmission design, PLS-CADD proficiency, a PE license, and strong leadership. Travel to client sites and mentoring junior staff are expected as part of a dynamic, client-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering Physics from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years experience in transmission design – HV and EHV lines including route selection and construction bid packages.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite.
  • Experience in a Project Engineering or Project Management capacity with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/MicroStation, MFAD, and Microsoft Project is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, and EPC projects.

The Senior Transmission Line Engineer can be located with any of our Power Delivery teams located in any of our Western Canada offices.

In this senior role, you will help bring WSP’s vast expertise, experience, and innovation to support our clients, utilities, and communities in the transformation to a new energy future.

Your Impact
  • Lead technical aspects of transmission line design projects (34.5kV–500kV), including new lines, relocations, rebuilds, upgrades, structure replacements, and fiber optic additions
  • Prepare and review design deliverables, such as plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications
  • Conduct quality reviews of internal and subcontractor deliverables
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects within budget and time constraints
  • Evaluate technical options, criteria, and routes for design merit
  • Apply knowledge of construction standards for high voltage line work
  • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction
  • Act as Technical Project Management Lead and maintain strong client relationships
  • Manage project reporting, invoicing, accounts receivable, and unbilled work
  • Develop and monitor scope, schedules, and budgets against plan and contracts
  • Ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Serve as primary liaison between client and project team; understand client interests
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement solutions for project success
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the project team
  • Travel to client offices, field sites, or vendor facilities as required
  • Support business development activities and participate in proposal preparation
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Civil (BSCE), Mechanical (BSME), or Electrical (BSEE), Engineering Physics (BSc) degree, from an accredited university
  • At least ten (10) years experience in transmission design – design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite
  • Experience in a Project Engineering or Project Management capacity working with multidisciplinary teams on complex projects
  • Must have Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.)
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Microstation, MFAD, and Microsoft Project is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, project management, EPC projects, and line construction
  • Distribution/underbuild design experience is a plus
  • Managerial and leadership skills

Compensation

BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $114,600 – $151,800

MB & ON: $104,500 – $143,900

Atlantic Provinces & QC: $103,500 – $137,400
