Job summary

Cando Rail Service is seeking a Senior Track Foreman to supervise on‑site crews, manage daily operations, and support project planning across Western Canada. The role requires coordinating with field teams, suppliers, and customers while maintaining a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities include leading daily briefings, hazard analysis, reporting, and ensuring quality workmanship in track construction and maintenance projects. Outdoor work and travel are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Experience in track construction and maintenance principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematics and ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Guide day‑to‑day operations of the job site with available personnel and resources.
  • Collaborate with Field Supervisors and Project Managers to identify hurdles and report status.
  • Lead daily safety briefings, perform hazard analyses, and promote safety initiatives.
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and customers to keep projects on plan.
  • Ensure production aligns with project plans and manage purchasing/reports.
  • Build strong teams and educate staff on policies and practices.

Description

Senior Track Foremen at Cando are responsible for the daily supervision of employees on site, assisting the supervisor in keeping the project on plan and budget, managing site purchasing and payroll, and liaising with customers and other contractors. The role requires working outdoors, physical activity, problem solving, and commitment to a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities
  • Guide day‑to‑day operations of the job site, ensuring necessary people, equipment, and resources are available.
  • Work with Field Supervisors and Project Managers to identify potential hurdles, target inconsistencies, and provide solutions; produce continuous status reports.
  • Lead daily job briefings, conduct and document hazard analysis, and champion all safety initiatives.
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and customers.
  • Ensure the job site production aligns with project plans and execute plans as directed by the supervisor or department manager.
  • Build and maintain positive and healthy relationships and teams within the division.
  • Promote and guide others to understand delivery of effective services and achievement of daily work objectives.
  • Educate others, provide employee training, and help implement policies and practices in the division.
  • Manage purchasing and reporting for the specific jobs, including productivity reports; complete timesheets and WCB forms.
  • Ensure quality of work/workmanship meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Maintain general equipment upkeep and complete daily log books accurately.
  • Perform laboring tasks involved in construction and maintenance of railway tracks.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Demonstrate initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload; meet project plans in a constantly changing environment.
  • Show leadership by establishing focus, providing motivational support, fostering teamwork, and empowering others.
  • Possess a working understanding of legislation, regulations, and best practices relevant to the area of expertise.
  • Ability to establish rapport with people and influence opinions, attitudes, or judgements.
  • Skilled in use of computer equipment and operating systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Ability to work on the road for 10 days at a time throughout Western Canada.
Education & Experience
  • General knowledge of track construction and maintenance principles and operational and production capabilities of various equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematics skills and familiarity with reading blueprints and schematics.
