Purpose

We are currently recruiting for a Lead Telecommunications Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Markham, Ontario.

The Lead Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and discipline expertise in the design, development, and delivery of telecommunications systems across complex industrial, mining, energy, and infrastructure projects. This role ensures telecommunications solutions are safe, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with client, operational, and project requirements while supporting successful project delivery throughout all phases of execution.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of telecommunications systems, ensuring technical excellence while meeting safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Develop telecommunications philosophies, specifications, reports, studies, calculations, data sheets, network architectures, and engineering deliverables in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership for telecommunications systems including fiber optic networks, structured cabling, WAN/LAN infrastructure, private LTE, wireless communications, CCTV, access control, IP telephony, public address and general alarm (PA/GA), and operational technology communications systems.
  • Lead the development and review of telecommunications system designs, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project management, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful integration of telecommunications systems throughout all project phases.
  • Support project planning, estimating, scheduling, resource forecasting, and discipline execution activities to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical risk assessments, constructability reviews, operability reviews, and value improvement initiatives.
  • Lead vendor engagement activities including technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, technical clarifications, factory acceptance testing, and resolution of technical queries.
  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities through the preparation and review of material requisitions, equipment specifications, commissioning plans, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and peer review support to engineers and designers while promoting a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Drive compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, cybersecurity principles, and Worley's health, safety, environmental, and sustainability commitments.
  • Support business development activities through scope development, engineering estimates, proposal preparation, client engagement, and technical presentations.
What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience
  • Extensive experience designing and delivering industrial telecommunications systems for mining, energy, infrastructure, or EPC/EPCM projects through feasibility, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness phases.
  • Strong technical expertise in fiber optic networks, structured cabling, industrial LAN/WAN infrastructure, private LTE, wireless communications, CCTV, access control, IP telephony, public address and general alarm systems, and operational technology communications networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work, evaluate engineering challenges, and develop practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that support project and business objectives.
  • Proven success delivering telecommunications engineering packages through multiple project phases while balancing safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering studies, specifications, scopes of work, equipment data sheets, procurement packages, and telecommunications design documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, suppliers, and project partners.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and designers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Motivated by solving complex technical challenges and delivering reliable, sustainable, and innovative telecommunications solutions in industrial environments.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing project requirements while maintaining a focus on quality and delivery.
  • Commitment to safe and sustainable engineering practices and a desire to create lasting value for clients, communities, and project stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial, mining, minerals processing, energy, or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity principles, industrial networking, and telecommunications systems integration supporting automation, process control, and digital operations initiatives is considered an asset.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $149,294 to $175641 CAD.
