Grade G6: £34,145 to £38,638 inclusive of London Weighting; potential progression to £40,757.

Job Description

The post holder will oversee biology research laboratories, training and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students. They will ensure Health and Safety compliance, maintain and operate equipment to high standards, and provide support for grant‑funded and contract research. The role may also involve practical classes, chemistry laboratories, and fieldwork.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train laboratory personnel.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safe working practices.
  • Support grant‑funded research projects and contract work.
  • Assist with practical classes, chemistry labs, and fieldwork as required.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and external partners.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Good prior work experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in at least some of the following techniques: cell‑culture, in‑vitro assays, ELISAs, (eco)toxicology testing, molecular biology, western blotting, histology.
  • Experience in environmental biology fieldwork desirable.
  • GCSE Maths & English grade C or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Willing to work outside normal hours on limited occasions.
