Our client is sourcing a Senior Tax Consultant for a 4-month contract.
About the Opportunity
Tax Filings & Compliance
- Direct the preparation of income tax filings for Canada and any other countries where the organization operates, including industry-specific levies and obligations.
- Coordinate all indirect tax submissions—such as GST/HST, VAT, and sales/use taxes—ensuring submissions are complete and on time.
- Oversee compliance deadlines across the organization and maintain a consolidated calendar of global tax requirements.
- Review and prepare quarterly and annual tax calculations (current and deferred) in line with US GAAP and IFRS standards.
- Validate tax-related balances and ensure financial reports and public disclosures include accurate tax information.
Controls, Risk Management & Audits
- Ensure tax processes follow strong internal controls and meet SOX requirements.
- Provide auditors with required schedules, documentation, and explanations during both internal and external reviews.
Planning & Advisory Work
- Contribute to planning activities aimed at improving effective tax rates and overall cash efficiency worldwide.
- Support tax reviews related to acquisitions, partnerships, new operations, and other strategic initiatives.
- Perform technical tax research and draft internal notes supporting the company’s tax positions.
Transfer Pricing & Documentation
- Maintain updated transfer-pricing documentation for all corporate entities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving global transfer-pricing rules.
Monitoring & Tax Authority Relations
- Track tax policy developments in Canada and internationally that may influence the organization.
- Manage responses to tax authorities, including information requests, reviews, disputes, and rulings.
- Offer guidance on indirect-tax matters affecting purchasing, movement of goods, and operational processes.
About You
Background & Experience
- CPA designation required; advanced tax training (such as the In-Depth Tax Course) is strongly preferred.
- Approximately seven or more years of hands-on tax experience, ideally within a multinational environment or the mining sector.
- Strong understanding of Canadian and international corporate tax rules.
