Job summary

IKO North America is seeking a Senior Tax & Compliance Officer for our Family Office in Toronto, ON. This full-time, on-site role focuses on Canadian and international tax planning for High-Net-Worth individuals and businesses.

The position reports to the CFO-Family Office and requires 6–7 years of progressive tax experience, CPA in-depth course or Masters of Tax, strong Excel/Visio, and excellent client service and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • CPA In-Depth Tax Course or a Masters of Tax is required or in progress.
  • Strong Excel and Visio skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage external providers across jurisdictions to meet tax objectives cost-effectively.
  • Plan and execute repatriation transactions, identify withholding and liabilities.
  • Collaborate on Canadian and multi-foreign tax planning to improve efficiency.
  • Assist with mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and estate planning.
  • Prepare accounting records and tax reports for HNW individuals, corporations, and partnerships.
  • Prepare files for tax compliance in Canada, the US, and other jurisdictions.
  • Correspond with tax authorities and reconcile tax accounts and management reports.
  • Support audits by providing tax analysis and documentation.
  • Develop and implement income tax compliance processes to meet deadlines.
  • Identify tax trends affecting HNW individuals and corporations.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Tax & Compliance Officer to join our team of skilled professionals at our Family Office based in Toronto, ON. This is a full-time permanent opportunity with an on-site setting.

Compensation: $124K-154K per annum, depending on experience

Responsibilities
  • Manage external service providers in numerous jurisdictions so that tax and business objectives are met in a cost-efficient and timely manner
  • Collaborate in the planning process and execution of repatriation transactions to identify any tax withholding and liability issues, and propose alternate scenarios
  • Work with the CFO-Family Office on Canadian and multi-foreign jurisdictional tax planning (inbound and outbound) to achieve tax and operational efficiencies
  • Work with the CFO-Family Office on special transactions including mergers, acquisitions, business reorganizations and estate planning
  • Prepare and examine accounting records and financial reports for a portfolio of High-Net-Worth individuals, corporations, and partnerships
  • Prepare files for submission to professional service providers in preparation for meeting tax compliance requirements in Canada, the US, and other jurisdictions for a portfolio of High-Net-Worth individuals, corporations and partnerships
  • Manage correspondences with tax authorities, reconciliation of tax accounts and the reports to management and owners
  • Provide assistance with audits by tax authorities through tax analysis, information gathering, and status documentation
  • Plan and implement an income tax compliance process to ensure tax reporting deadlines are met
  • Identify and communicate trends and developments in tax which are relevant to High-Net-Worth individuals and corporations
Qualifications
  • 6-7 years of progressive experience with a public accounting firm or a mid-level tax position in industry
  • Completion or currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or a Masters of Tax program
  • Strong Excel and Visio skills
  • Has the ability to work independently
  • Contribute to team objectives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High-level client service skills including the ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience with Canadian tax research tools and tax software
  • An understanding US tax rules is beneficial
  • Proven experience advising individuals and corporations on income tax issues and specific business matters
  • Strong analytical capability, sound business sense and creative mind
  • Integrity, honesty, and sound judgment regarding confidential matters
