Job summary

Horizon Aircraft is seeking a Senior Systems Test Engineer to lead the development of test infrastructure for aircraft systems verification and certification. You will shape HIL/PHIL and Iron Bird environments, coordinating with our product teams across avionics, propulsion and power systems.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of aerospace test experience, hands-on hardware design skills, and a proven ability to deliver across the full development lifecycle in a fast-moving, collaborative team

Qualifications

• 7+ years in a Systems Test Engineer role within aerospace or automotive.
• Hands-on experience with HIL/PHIL test environments for compliance.
• Experience across all lifecycle phases of development.
• Ability to design test benches and associated fixtures and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders to capture requirements and develop test capabilities.
• Design test solutions for avionics, flight controls, and power distribution systems.
• Develop electrical/electronic test benches for HIL/PHIL and Iron Bird environments.
• Create mechanical structures, fixtures and integration hardware for tests.
• Prepare BOMs and technical drawings and related documentation.
• Lead test asset commissioning, fault investigations and issue resolution.
• Coordinate test activities to meet programme milestones and safety standards.
• Manage laboratory safety, risk assessments, and operating procedures.

What we need you to bring.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Systems Test Engineer (HIL / Power HIL). You will lead development of Horizon Aircraft test infrastructure that underpins our aircraft development programme. From component-level test benches to HIL, Power HIL, and Iron Bird environments, you will define, build, integrate, and operate the facilities used to verify aircraft systems, support certification activities, and enable safety of flight.

Your Day-to-Day

• Engage with stakeholders to capture requirements and develop the test capability needed to support integration, verification, and certification activities.
• Design test solutions for avionics, flight controls, LV/HV electrical power distribution and propulsion systems.
• Design electrical and electronic solutions for test benches, HIL, PHIL simulator, and Iron Bird facilities according to programme requirements and test objectives.
• Design mechanical structures, fixtures, and integration hardware to support test and validation activities.
• Prepare technical documentation for solutions, including Bill of Materials (B.O.M.) and technical drawings.
• Lead test asset commissioning, fault investigation, and issue resolution throughout the development lifecycle.
• Coordinate test activities, ensuring facilities, equipment, and resources are available to meet programme milestones.
• Manage laboratory safety, risk assessments, and operational procedures for test facilities and equipment.

The ideal candidates are likely to have the following background: Demonstrated experience (7+ years) in a Systems Test Engineer role from aerospace or automotive, having worked across all phases of the lifecycle. Ideally you would have hands on experience with development of HIL/PHIL test environments used to support compliance demonstration activities with TCCA, FAA, and EASA.
