Job summary

MDA Space in Canada is seeking a Senior Systems MTS, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Missions, to drive end-to-end SAR engineering activities across the full mission lifecycle and lead high‑level design trades to meet user requirements. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in radar/SAR or active imaging systems and 5+ years in space systems engineering, plus strong problem solving and communication skills.

A reliability security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience with radar/SAR or similar active imaging systems including hardware, processors and/or data products.
• 5+ years in space systems engineering or similar complex systems engineering environment.
• Experience in various engineering life cycles for large complex programs.
• Self-starter with ability to perform in a dynamic environment; strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication to explain concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work within a large organization with understanding of dependencies and stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to end-to-end SAR engineering activities for the full lifecycle of a SAR space mission.
• Contributes to Mission Concept of Operations and defines high-level mission specs to meet user requirements, including spacecraft budgets for SAR payload.
• Lead technical solutioning for enhancements to existing and future SAR Missions, including beam mode design and SAR image quality modelling.
• Participate in mission technical risk management, integration, verification and validation at the Mission Level.
• Perform design trade-off studies across spacecraft systems, coverage, SAR payload, processor, and end-user applications.
• Lead the team to successful commissioning, calibration and early operations of SAR missions.
• Provide sound technical guidance to upper management and new business.
• Mentor and coach developing team members.

Responsibilities

Asa Senior Systems MTS, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Missions , you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include:

• Contributes toend-end of the SAR related engineering activities for the full lifecycle of a SAR space mission

Required Experience:

• Graduatedegreein ElectricalEngineering,Engineering Physics,Math, Physics, or a combination of related education andexperience
• 10or more years working with radar,SARor similar active imaging systems, including work on hardware,processorsand/or data products
• 5 or more years working in a space systems engineering environment or similar complex systems engineeringenvironment
• Experience indifferent typesof engineering life cycles as applicable forlarge complex programs
• Self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic workingenvironment;
• Possess excellentproblem solvingskills
• Superbinterpersonal,verbaland written communication skillsto explain concepts to wide-ranging audiences (e.g.technical team, sales team, executives, customers,etc)
• The ability to work within a large organization and understand dependencies and stakeholder needs.

Desired Experience:

• Ability and knowledge to work with MATLAB, Python;
• Appreciation forsatellite basedSAR Payload design and operations;
• Appreciation of Space Mission design (e.g.Coverage and Access, orbital dynamics,etc);
• Appreciation of Spacecraft design (e.g.Thermal, Power, Pointing accuracy,etc);
• Ability to learnnew technologiesand domain knowledge quickly; and
• A strong understanding of geospatial data.

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $116K - $160K annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
