Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a structural design professional to join our team in a hybrid schedule requiring in-office work three days weekly with two remote days. You will develop structural schematics and lead multi-discipline coordination on 3D plant layouts for complex projects.

You will mentor less experienced drafters, collaborate with engineers across the power plant design process, and participate in field activities to support accurate data gathering and model fidelity.

Qualifications

  • Including drafting or related technical training with 1+ year coursework or experience.
  • 5+ years of detailed structural design for steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Proficiency with 3D plant layout modeling software.
  • Experience reviewing structural layouts: steel frames, connections, concrete, supports and rebar.
  • Ability to interface with multi-discipline teams in power plant design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural design schematics using 3D modeling tools.
  • Lead coordination of design phases across all aspects of the structural model.
  • Coordinate and guide designers and project team members for timely design.
  • Plan and deliver structural design deliverables both independently and with a team.
  • Possibly accompany senior staff for field walkdowns and data gathering.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced drafters and designers.

Description

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

  • As a member of the structural design team, this position will offer you the opportunity to work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in developing structural physical layout drawings in a 3-D model
  • Challenging assignments that include the design of structural supports and foundations, and investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of structural design issues
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate structural design schematics
  • Act as the structural design team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated structural design model.
  • Participate in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated structural design model
  • Coordinate and provide guidance to other designers and project team members to ensure a complete and timely design.
  • Independently and as a member of a design team, plan and execute structural design deliverables
  • There may be the opportunity to accompany and assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities
  • Challenging assignments that include the design of structural supports and foundations, and investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of structural design issues.- Generate structural design schematics.
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced drafters and designers.
Qualifications

This position may require access to U.S. export-controlled information. As such, candidates must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A foundational undergratuate program in a technical area including drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience
  • Five (5) or more years of detailed design experience in the development of structural steel design and reinforced concrete design drawings
  • Proficiency with design software tools in executing 3D plant layout models
  • Experience in the review of structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process

Valued but not required experience:

  • Proficiency with MicroStation and or AutoCAD
  • Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design
  • Experience using AutoCad and Microstation software.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Compensation Range

$68,050 - $103,966
