Job summary

Capital One Canada is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer – Mobile(Android) to architect scalable Android solutions and lead advanced development across the SDLC.

You will mentor engineers, drive technical strategy, and collaborate with cross‑functional partners to ensure secure, high‑performing architectures that align with business goals.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on Android development in Java/Kotlin.
• 8+ years of design, architecture, and development.
• Experience with RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins, Jetpack Compose.
• Experience mentoring Junior/Intermediate/Senior engineers and guiding stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy for complex Android platform needs with hands-on guidance.

About the Role:

This role does not have direct reports. We require advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architecture.

As a Senior Staff Engineer at Capital One Software Studio, you will orchestrate the creation of technology solutions that align with our business goals. Your day begins with a review of ongoing solution designs that are in different phases of their life cycles. You’ll spend your time designing scalable and secure solution architectures, evaluating new technologies, and overseeing the development of high-level designs. You will engage in dynamic collaboration with cross-functional teams to advocate for best practices in architecture and design. For the new projects, you will closely work with your business partners to create sound business architectures. By day’s end, you will have contributed to solutions and strategies that will shape our future, ensuring that all solutions are not only innovative but also follow our architectural and security standards.

Your Responsibilities:

• Define and drive the technical strategy and vision for complex, multi-domain Android platform needs, providing hands‑on engineering guidance to ensure successful execution.

• Act as a recognized thought leader, influencing architectural roadmaps and major technical investments across the organization and contributing expertise on how evolving technology affects the domain.

• Work as part of a dynamic mobile team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.

• Elevate the technical bar by mentoring and coaching engineers and other senior technical leaders, in addition to providing mentorship to Junior, Intermediate, and Senior mobile associates.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 8 years of hands‑on development of Native Android applications using Java/Kotlin

• At least 8 years of experience with application design, technical architecture/design, and development

• Experience with RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins, Jetpack Compose

• Experience leading and mentoring Junior/Intermediate/Senior Associates and providing guidance to technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master?s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related fields.

• 10+ Years of experience leading the full life-cycle of Software Development

• Exposure to AWS or other cloud products

• Experience working in an agile environment and familiar with agile development methodologies

The expected annual salary range for this position is $202,400 – $231,000. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
