Job summary

TAG HR partners with a well-established Ottawa public accounting firm to hire a Senior Staff Accountant. The role spans assurance, compilation, tax, and advisory engagements in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, researching accounting issues, and communicating progress to managers. CPA designation with Ontario membership and at least three years of public accounting experience are required.

Qualifications

• CPA designation required with membership in good standing (Ontario).
• Minimum three years of recent public accounting experience.
• Thorough knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and Canadian income tax legislation.
• Strong technical accounting and tax preparation skills with ability to analyze complex financial information.
• Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and corporate/personal tax returns in a public accounting environment.
• Strong understanding of assurance and compilation engagement processes.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
• Professionalism, integrity and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare compilation, review, and audit engagements from planning through completion.
• Research and resolve accounting and tax issues with practical client recommendations.
• Coordinate client information requests and communicate engagement progress with managers and partners.
• Identify opportunities to improve client processes and recommend value‑added accounting, tax, and business solutions.
• Maintain organized working paper files in accordance with standards.
• Accurately record billable time and assist with engagement planning and workflow management.
• Stay current with changes to Canadian accounting standards, tax legislation, and best practices through professional development.
• Contribute to continuous process improvements and support a collaborative team environment.
