Reporting to the Director, Financial Services, the Senior Staff Accountant works at a strategic partner level within the Department of Financial Services providing guidance, planning and direction to the organization through advice and interpretation of policies, procedures and legislation.
This position acts as a lead on large-scale or long-term projects, including the year-end audit, internal controls audit, capital asset management, and ERP implementation.
The Senior Staff Accountant will establish credibility and influence as a key leader providing ongoing expert consultative and advisory support to managers, supervisors and staff on all aspects of financial reporting including, but not limited to, government reporting, financial statements, audit requirements, internal policy compliance, and grant reporting. This position also manages and mentors the Staff Accountant.
Other key accountabilities include providing guidance to working and entry level Financial Services staff and acting on behalf of the Director, Financial Services in the event of an absence. This position works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. This position is distinguished from other Manager positions held within Financial Services by the degree of difficulty of the assignments given, the latitude of judgment exercised, and the degree of independence to determine the methods and means of performing assignments. It is expected that the relationship with the Director, Financial Services relationship will be one of advisory in both directions. The incumbent will act with authority and confidence in their knowledge of the Handbook, the Income Tax Act, and knowledge of audit and best practice.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Management or a related field and five years relevant experience.
