Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in Montreal is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to support clients in implementing software safety processes compliant with international standards. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience and strong analytical skills, with knowledge of risk assessment methodologies. Fluency in French and English is required. This role offers opportunities for leading teams and collaborating with internal technical teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software/system safety or RAMS, ideally in relevant sectors.
  • Experience in implementing complex processes and ensuring compliance with international standards.
  • Mastery of concepts such as SWAL, SIL, SEEA, LOR, FMECA, FTA.

Job description

To support our strong growth, we are seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer , autonomous and capable of supporting clients in the implementation of processes compliant with international standards.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the client in the implementation and monitoring of Software Safety processes.
  • Applying and advising on software safety standards : MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508, DO-178.
  • Defining and assessing Levels of Rigor (LOR), software assurance levels, and Software Integrity Levels (SIL).
  • Performing system and software safety assessments.
  • Analyzing customer safety requirements, leading the development of product safety requirements, and ensuring their integration into system design and architecture.
  • Performing Software Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA).
  • Conducting hazard analyses and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety issues in system design.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and the capitalization of best practices.
  • Collaborating with internal technical teams and the client to ensure product compliance with safety requirements.
  • Writing technical reports and monitoring software safety indicators with stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Engineering degree in computer science, electronics, embedded systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software / system safety or RAMS, ideally in the defense, railway, or aerospace sectors.
  • Experience in implementing complex processes and ensuring compliance with international software safety standards.
  • Knowledge and experience with risk assessment methodologies and at least one of the following safety standards : MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508, DO-178.
  • Mastery of concepts such as SWAL, SIL, SEEA, LOR, FMECA, FTA.
  • Strong analytical skills, rigor, and ability to synthesize.
  • Leadership and ability to support teams and clients in process implementation.
  • Bilingual in French and English.
