Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Toronto is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the AI Engineering and Labs team, focusing on designing and implementing innovative software solutions that advance the Bank’s AI strategy.

You will collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, product managers, and other engineers to translate business challenges into robust, scalable systems; strong Python, microservice experience, and modern DevOps tooling are essential.

Qualifications

  • A STEM degree from a relevant discipline.
  • Significant software engineering, system design and integration experience.
  • Experience building large applications with Python; microservice architecture preferred.
  • Experience with databases and key-value stores (PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB).
  • Experience with message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka); familiarity with cloud native tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver robust, scalable software solutions in AI Data Platforms.
  • Turn business requirements into concise technical specs and designs.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, product managers, and other engineers.
  • Document designs, runbooks, and operational processes; drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop using Python, FastAPI, Docker/Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.

You will be a member of the AI Engineering and Labs team focused on designing and implementing innovative, intelligent software solutions across the Bank’s business lines. Your role will be an integral part of the organization’s AI strategy dedicated to creating value for the Bank and its customers. You will work closely with teams of data scientists, data engineers, product managers, and other software engineers to understand global business partner challenges and processes in order to turn those insights into working software solutions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
  • You have a university degree in a relevant STEM discipline. (Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics).
  • Significant experience in software engineering, system design, and integration.
  • Experience developing large applications (Python and microservice architecture are strongly preferred).
  • Experience working with databases and key-value data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB).

Experience using a message broker-like service (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, bonus points for GCP Pub/Sub).

  • Concrete understanding of HTTP, REST API design and familiarity with other common networking standards and protocols.
  • Experience with Python, particularly FastApi, Gemini (or any LLM Provider) API development, Asyncio/multiprocess management tooling is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Docker/Docker Compose, Kubernetes, GCP are a very strong plus.
  • Experience writing/maintaining Helm Charts (preferable) and working with other IT Automation software (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) is a very strong plus.
  • Experience with building/using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoWF/ArgoCD) is a plus.
  • Modern JavaScript skills, and experience working with NodeJS, Express, React/Redux and toolsets (Webpack, Babel, Jest) are a plus.
  • Experience using Linux and proficiency with DevOps and tooling.
  • Consistent use of version control (e.g., git).
