Job summary

Hitachi Rail in Canada seeks a Senior Software Technical Specialist to lead design, integration, and testing of critical railway signaling software. You will own one or more software areas, drive architecture, ensure safety, and align with development processes under the Chief Software Architect.

Applicants should have 5+ years in software design and Agile environments, a strong command of C++, C#, Java, and Python, and experience with tools like Git, Jira, Eclipse, and DOORS. P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and URS systems.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.

Responsibilities

• Understand customer needs through studies, simulations, models, prototypes, and other engineering methods.
• Contribute to architecture design, algorithm development, and requirements refinement.
• Design, code, debug, test, and review software solutions.
• Develop and execute software test procedures and participate in design reviews.
• Review code quality, test procedures, and test results.
• Analyze defects and implement corrective actions.
• Perform engineering testing and investigate issues in field environments.
• Provide input for project cost estimates.
• Support managers through training, leadership, and mentoring.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering teams for software consistency and architectural compliance.
• Deliver technical solutions timely and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in Work Package Management when required.
