Export Development Canada (EDC) in Canada is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Level 18) to lead platform integration and AI-enabled delivery within Risk & Corporate Services. You will design secure, scalable solutions, drive architectural decisions, and govern AI-assisted outputs with strong governance and accountability.

You will contribute to a complex, enterprise landscape, collaborate across teams, and mentor engineers while aligning with EDC’s standards and risk controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years in software engineering or solution design.
• Strong system integration and platform experience.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, managing versioned APIs, and OAuth authentication.
• Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and manage risk.
• Experience reviewing AI-assisted outputs with sound technical judgment.
• Strong communication and technical leadership in a complex enterprise environment.
• Bilingual in English and French is a plus.

Compensation Details:

• Software Engineer 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
  Location:
• Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of three days per week (subject to change).
• This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from a Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard.

  Team Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences.

• Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state and operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.

• Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap.

• Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies.

• Lead integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations.

The Senior Software Engineer will act as a technical decision owner within Risk & Corporate Services, responsible for designing, integrating, and governing platform-based solutions in a complex enterprise and increasingly AI-enabled delivery environment.

This role balances technical depth with system-level thinking, risk awareness, and leadership. It is accountable for ensuring that technology decisions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business and platform objectives while maintaining strong governance and human accountability over AI-assisted outputs.

The position supports the organization’s transition toward 2027 by ensuring that automation and AI-enabled capabilities are applied responsibly, with clear accountability, traceability, and alignment to enterprise standards and risk controls.

This role emphasizes orchestration, integration, and decision ownership rather than hands-on execution alone. Success is measured by system outcomes and resilience, not code volume.

What you will be doing:

• Solution Design & Platform Integration: Design and integrate solutions across enterprise platforms and services, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment with EDC standards.

• Technical Decision Ownership: Own architectural integrity and integration decisions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and guide where automation versus human oversight is appropriate.

• AI-Enabled Delivery Governance: Ensure AI-enabled capabilities are implemented safely and responsibly, maintaining accountability for outputs.

• AI Output Validation: Review and validate AI-assisted code, designs, and workflows to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with standards.

• Platform Engineering: Develop secure, scalable, and performant solutions including APIs, cloud-native components, and integrations.

• Quality & Risk Management: Ensure reliability, support defect resolution, and proactively manage risks and dependencies.

• Collaboration: Work with Architecture, QA, Business Analysts, and Delivery leadership to align design and execution.

• Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction and standards across teams.
  What we are looking for:

• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in software engineering or solution design.

• Strong system integration and platform experience.

• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, managing versioned APIs, and OAuth authentication.

• Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and manage risk.

• Experience reviewing AI-assisted outputs with sound technical judgment.

• Strong communication and technical leadership skills.

• Experience in complex enterprise environments.
