Job summary

Movellus Inc. in Markham, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Systems/Firmware to build firmware powering AI datacenter hardware with real-time control and telemetry. You will work on RTOS constructs, optimize close to the metal, and drive automation.

You will collaborate across hardware and software teams, review code, debug incidents, and contribute to FPGA tapeout preparation with a strong emphasis on quality and scalable software practices.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years of experience in Embedded Systems or Firmware roles.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with Linux kernel driver development.
• Familiar with RISC-V and ARM architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop firmware and drivers to support infrastructure IPs for power, performance and reliability.
• Develop orchestration code to coordinate sensor/actuator IPs with ultrafast response times.
• Contribute to AI/ML algorithm development to improve power efficiency and reliability in datacenters.
• Validate firmware on simulation environments and FPGAs before tapeout.
• Build automation infrastructure to deliver custom releases to customers.
• Participate in/lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders.
• Work with engineers to improve development processes and deliver improvements.
• Review code for best practices and attend to critical incidents.

Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Systems/Firmware

Join our Software Team to build the embedded firmware powering the next generation of AI datacenter hardware with real-time power control and telemetry. We need someone passionate about embedded systems, RTOS constructs, optimizing close to the metal, and automation - someone who wants to see their code control real silicon in production. Key Responsibilities

• Develop firmware and drivers to support our fleet of infrastructure IPs to optimize power, performance and reliability.
• Develop orchestration code to coordinate operation between Movellus sensor and actuator IPs with ultrafast response times.
• Contribute to advanced AI/ML algorithm development to improve power efficiency and reliability in the datacenter.
• Validate firmware behaviour on simulation environments and FPGAs before tapeout.
• Build automation infrastructure to deliver custom releases to customers.
• Participate in/lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders.
• Work closely with engineers to identify areas of improvement in the development process and deliver impactful improvements.
• Review code developed by other team members and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
• Respond to critical incidents, debug, and resolve system issues.

What We Are Looking For

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer/Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in an Embedded Systems or Firmware role.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with Linux kernel driver development.
• Familiar with RISC-V and ARM architectures.
• Knowledge of AMBA and JTAG protocols.
• Familiarity with hardware & software co‑verification/emulation platforms.
• Strong experience with build tools (Bazel, Make) and leveraging containers.
• Solid debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• You rely on metrics to continuously assess and improve software quality and operational health.
• You love learning new technologies and to continuously challenge yourself by finding new and better ways to solve problems.
• Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup.
• Ability to give and process constructive feedback.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with SystemC models and QEMU.
• Experience developing software telemetry tools that enable visibility, analysis, and optimization across embedded systems.
