Job summary

Sun Life Financial seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the QEnovation Squad, focusing on agentic QE orchestration with orQEstra. You’ll design, develop, and deploy AI-assisted testing and automation across engineering platforms.

You will collaborate with product partners and platform teams to advance AI capabilities, improve productivity, and influence engineering practices, with hybrid work options and exposure to Sun Life’s broader AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting software solutions within Agile delivery environments.
• Experience with AI agents, agentic workflows, and AI-enabled software solutions.

Job Description: Senior Software Engineer – Agentic QE orchestration

Role Summary

Are you passionate about building intelligent software solutions and exploring how AI can transform the way engineering teams work? Sun Life's Enterprise Quality Engineering Platform (EQEP) is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the QEnovation Squad, the team responsible for the evolution of our agentic QE orchestration platform, orQEstra. This role focuses on designing and developing software solutions that enable AI-assisted testing, agentic workflows, engineering automation, and platform innovation. Working alongside engineers, product partners, and platform teams, you will help integrate AI capabilities into engineering processes while contributing to the future direction of quality engineering across the enterprise. This position is well suited for someone who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience applying AI technologies to solve real-world problems. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be expected to contribute technical expertise, influence design decisions, and help advance emerging engineering practices while continuing to grow your own technical leadership capabilities.

What You Will Do?

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting the team’s agentic QE orchestration tool
• Build and enhance AI-enabled capabilities that improve engineering productivity and quality outcomes.
• Design and implement agentic workflows that include augment testing, automation, and software delivery processes.
• Develop integrations between AI agents, engineering tools, testing frameworks, and platform services.
• Contribute to the evolution of AI-assisted testing capabilities and engineering automation solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify opportunities for platform improvements and innovation.
• Develop APIs, services, and applications using modern software engineering practices.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute ideas that improve platform architecture and engineering outcomes.
• Contribute to platform standards, reusable components, and engineering best practices.
• Support experimentation and proof-of-concept activities involving emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions.
• Utilize Agile delivery practices and continuous feedback to iteratively improve platform capabilities.
• Share knowledge, collaborate with peers, and help foster technical growth across the team.
• Support platform users through troubleshooting, technical consultation, and enablement activities.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

• Bachelor’s Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting software solutions within Agile delivery environments.
• Experience designing, building, integrating, or supporting AI agents, agentic workflows, and AI-enabled software solutions.
• Experience building developer tooling or integrations that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), including IDE extensions, Model Context Protocol (MCP), tool-calling APIs, and prompt/context engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing software using modern programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#.
• Experience designing and developing APIs, services, integrations, and automation solutions.
• Working knowledge of modern test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Bruno/REST, PyETL, JUnit, Jest, pytest, or xUnit, with the ability to generate, troubleshoot, and enhance automated tests programmatically.
• Experience with source control, branching strategies, and modern software delivery practices using Git-based workflows.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and modern data modelling principles.
• Experience working with cloud platforms and modern application deployment patterns. AWS experience is particularly relevant.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and container-based development environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and rapidly evolving technologies.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Skills / Assets:

• Experience applying AI and agentic capabilities within testing, quality engineering, or software delivery workflows.
• Familiarity with agent governance, evaluation frameworks, observability, and responsible AI practices.
• Experience with workflow automation, engineering productivity platforms, and developer enablement tooling.
• Experience supporting technology adoption through communities of practice, onboarding, coaching, or enablement activities.
