Job summary

Stantec in Canada seeks a senior software engineer to design and build scalable web applications using Python and modern front-end frameworks. You will work across DBs (Oracle, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL) and containerized deployments with OpenShift or Kubernetes, while integrating AI-powered workflows.

You will mentor junior developers, participate in full-stack architecture decisions, and help drive high-quality testing with PyTest, Playwright, and Locust in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Expert-level Python with at least one mainstream framework (Django, FastAPI, or Flask).
• Front-end: Angular, HTMX, and Alpine.js experience; capable of selecting the right tool for UI/UX needs.
• Experience with PyTest, Playwright, and Locust for testing and validation.
• Extensive DB experience with Oracle, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL including design and performance tuning.
• Proven track record of working with Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Java (JSF, ADF) or C# experience is a plus for migrations.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain robust, scalable web applications using Python (Django or similar).
• Build dynamic, responsive UIs using Angular for SPAs, or HTMX and Alpine.js for modern workflows.
• Develop end-to-end tests with PyTest and Playwright; implement load testing with Locust.io.

• Deploy and manage apps in OpenShift or Kubernetes-based environments.
• Incorporate AI-driven workflows by integrating LLMs and autonomous agents into apps.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain robust, scalable web applications using Python (Django or similar frameworks).
• Build dynamic, responsive user interfaces utilizing Angular for complex SPAs, or HTMX and Alpine.js for modern, high-performance reactive workflows.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive end-to-end testing suites using PyTest and Playwright to ensure cross-browser reliability. Implement and execute load testing strategies using Locust.io to validate system scalability.
• Optimize and manage large-scale databases Oracle, MS-SQL Server and Postgres, ensuring data integrity and high performance.
• Deploy and manage applications in secure, privately hosted containerized environments, specifically OpenShift or Kubernetes (K8s).
• Design and implement agentic development approaches, integrating LLMs and autonomous agents into application workflows to enhance automation and user experience.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Python Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Python and at least one mainstream framework (e.g., Django, FastAPI, or Flask).
• Front-End Proficiency: Highly desirable experience with Angular, HTMX, and Alpine.js. You should be comfortable choosing the right tool for the specific UI/UX requirement.
• Testing & Validation: Proven experience with PyTest, Playwright, and Locust.io.
• Database Expertise: Extensive experience with Oracle, MS-SQL Server PostgreSQL, including advanced querying, schema design, and performance tuning.
• Proven track record of working with Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Past experience with Java (JSF, ADF) or C# is a significant plus, providing valuable context for system migrations.

Preferred Skills (Nice To Have)

• Experience working in high-velocity, Full Stack Agile environments.
• A passion for guiding junior developers and conducting constructive code reviews.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and work independently with minimal supervision.

Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science or equivalent required

Pay Range

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$74,400.00 - $107,900.00 Annually
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
