Job summary

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) seeks a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain applications serving business partners. You will work across Technology and Investment Risk teams on planning, liability assessment, and performance measurement.

You’ll contribute to the full software lifecycle, lead tech projects when directed, and mentor junior staff while staying current with Azure cloud services and modern development practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering, or equivalent software experience.
• Minimum 5 years of professional software development with full lifecycle exposure.
• Strong service-oriented design and development knowledge.
• Experience on Azure cloud-based apps (AKS, Azure AD, Key Vault, Storage).
• 5+ years with Web development (Angular, NgRx, JavaScript, CSS, REST), .NET Core, Python, SQL DBs, Snowflake.
• Proficient in DevOps and CI/CD tools: GitHub, Jenkins, Helm, Nexus.
• Automation testing with Playwright and solid communication skills.

The opportunity

The Senior Software Developer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of applications that provide services and solutions to business partners, and contributes business and technical knowledge to complex IT projects. This includes participating in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and analysis to design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.

Who you'll work with

You will be joining a team of passionate and experienced application developers. You’ll collaborate with various teams across Technology, Investment Risk, and other business units to review business requirements and build and support applications for OTPP Investment planning, liability assessment, and performance measurement.

What you'll do

• Deliver high-quality, well-designed, and well-architected systems under the guidance of senior staff through code and design reviews.
• Complete an acceptable volume of work while communicating the status of personal work plans and tasks required to design, develop, and test assigned portions of projects.
• Maintain currency in technological trends and directions by continually upgrading personal technical and IT-related skills through research, education, and self-motivated technology experimentation.
• Participate in and/or lead new technology investigations and make recommendations for technology adoption where appropriate.
• Collaborate with business partners, understand business use cases, and propose technical solutions to support business needs.
• As directed, lead technical projects and mentor junior development staff.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent professional software development experience.
• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with exposure to the full project lifecycle.
• Advanced knowledge of current information systems theories, concepts, and techniques.
• Strong practical experience and knowledge of service-oriented design and development.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing cloud-based applications using Azure Services (AKS, Azure AD, Azure Key Vault, Azure Batch Service, Azure Storage, etc.).
• Minimum 5 years of experience with current software development techniques: Web Development (Angular 19+, NgRx, JavaScript, CSS, JSON, WebAPI/REST), .NET Core (C#), Python, Relational database platforms (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and cloud data solutions (Snowflake).
• DevOps methodologies and CI/CD tooling (GitHub, Jenkins, Helm, Nexus).
• Automation testing frameworks such as Playwright.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills for interactions with business partners and people of varying levels of technical expertise.
