Job summary

Lumentum Ottawa is seeking a Senior Software Automation Engineer to advance optical test strategies and automation. You will help bring innovative optical components from design to production, using AI-enhanced testing and scalable verification solutions.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in optical product development, strong software skills, and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics. On-site in Ottawa with a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

• A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of product development experience in optical components, photonics, or telecom systems.
• Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies from design to production.
• Characterize key optical parameters using advanced techniques to optimize performance.
• Apply data analysis to extract insights and improve optical designs.
• Collaborate on integrating AI into test and characterization workflows.
• Work with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality teams to align product requirements.
• Create scalable, well-documented test solutions and validate products using Agile methods.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a key contributor to our Design Verification & Characterization Team, you’ll play an essential role in bringing revolutionary optical products to life. Specifically, you’ll:

• Engineer with impact: Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies to transition breakthrough products from the design phase to full-scale production.
• Characterize cutting-edge optics: Conduct in-depth characterization of key optical parameters, using advanced techniques to ensure our products are optimized for real-world performance.
• Dive into advanced analysis: Utilize sophisticated data analysis methods to extract insights, solve challenges, and improve optical designs.
• Innovate with AI: Collaborate on integrating AI tools into test and characterization workflows to unlock new levels of efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate for success: Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to align product requirements.
• Deliver excellence: Create scalable, well-documented test solutions and validate products using Agile methodologies.

What We’re Looking For

• A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.

Experience

• 3+ years of relevant experience on product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience in the design and/or testing of optical components and subsystems for optical communications.
• Hands-on experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment
• Expertise in test automation, including interaction with devices under test and test equipment.
• Experience in any one (or more) of the following: Python, Flutter, Dart, VB.NET, C#
• Experience leveraging packages and frameworks in a software development context
• Familiarity with Agile software development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git)

Salary Range

Salary Range: $71,450 - $102,100 CAD (flexible).

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In line with our commitment to being a great place to work, Lumentum offers competitive total rewards which may include annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive health and welfare benefits.
