Job summary

TYLin is seeking an experienced Senior Signals Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of complex rail signaling systems across commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, metro, and high-speed rail projects. This role will lead signal engineering efforts from concept development through commissioning and operational handover, developing safe, reliable, and innovative train control solutions.

This position requires a P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Proven experience delivering railway signaling and train control systems projects from conceptual design through commissioning and operational turnover.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, procurement documentation, construction packages, and design reports.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of railway signaling safety, reliability, and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of rail signaling and train control systems for commuter, transit, heavy rail, and high-speed rail applications.
  • Develop and review signal circuit designs, control lines, route & aspect charts, and cable plans
  • Serve as Technical Lead and/or Engineer of Record for signaling projects.
  • Plan and execute project work based on scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
  • Signal & Train Control System Design; CBTC, PTC, Cab Signaling, Interlockings, and related systems.
  • Perform braking calculations, operational analyses, system capacity assessments, and signaling design studies.
  • Develop signaling schemes that comply with operational requirements, client standards, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Perform design reviews, circuit checking, and quality assurance of signaling deliverables.
  • Ensure all designs comply with CROR, AREMA standards, and Transport Canada GCR/GCS requirements.
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, system cutovers, and field integration activities.
  • Interface with clients, operators, agencies, and project stakeholders to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers through coaching, technical reviews, and professional development.

TYLin is seeking an experienced Senior Signals Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of complex rail and transit signaling systems across commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, metro, and high-speed rail projects. This role will lead signal engineering efforts from concept development through commissioning and operational handover, and will develop safe, reliable, and innovative train control and signaling solutions.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and engineering of rail signaling and train control systems for commuter, transit, heavy rail, and high-speed rail applications.
  • Develop and review signal circuit designs, control lines, route & aspect charts, and cable plans
  • Serve as Technical Lead and/or Engineer of Record for signaling projects.
  • Plan and execute project work based on scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Support both traditional design-bid-build and design-build project delivery methods.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
  • Signal & Train Control System Design
  • Develop and analyze signaling systems including:
    • Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)
    • Positive Train Control (PTC)
    • Cab Signaling Systems
    • Relay-Based and Microprocessor-Based Interlockings
    • Grade Crossing Warning Systems
    • Train Detection Systems
    • Yard and Terminal Signaling Systems
  • Perform braking calculations, operational analyses, system capacity assessments, and signaling design studies.
  • Develop signaling schemes that comply with operational requirements, client standards, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Perform design reviews, circuit checking, and quality assurance of signaling deliverables.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations including CROR, AREMA standards, and Transport Canada GCR/GCS requirements.
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, system cutovers, and field integration activities.
  • Interface directly with clients, operators, agencies, and project stakeholders to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers through coaching, technical reviews, and professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Proven experience delivering railway signaling and train control systems projects from conceptual design through commissioning and operational turnover.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, procurement documentation, construction packages, and design reports.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of railway signaling safety, reliability, and operational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with yard signaling systems, terminal operations, and high-speed rail corridors.
  • Knowledge of state-of-good-repair programs, system modernization initiatives, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Experience developing, modifying, validating, and commissioning vital application logic and signaling data.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other relevant engineering design software.
  • Experience supporting both design-build and conventional project delivery models.
