Overview

To support, coordinate and actively assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the Operating Department while managing a delegated team. Provide quality planned care for patients during their perioperative phase of care by ensuring all team members deliver quality patient care by providing appropriate clinical and managerial leadership.

Main duties of the job

Hours: 16 hours per week - with on-call participation

The Role We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Senior Theatre Scrub Practitioner (SFA) to join our team on a part-time basis. This position offers flexibility around days and hours worked, making it ideal for an experienced practitioner looking to balance their professional and personal commitments. In this role, you will deliver safe, high-quality perioperative care across a variety of specialities, supporting consultants during complex surgical procedures. As an SFA, you will take an advanced clinical role in theatre, ensuring safe and efficient list management while contributing to the ongoing development of our surgical services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scrub and assist across a wide range of surgical specialities, ensuring consistently high standards of care.
  • Act as a Surgical First Assistant, providing direct consultant support during procedures.
  • Coordinate operating lists and ensure optimal use of equipment, resources and staff.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, promoting continuous learning and clinical excellence.
  • Uphold theatre policies and maintain strict compliance with infection prevention and patient safety standards.

Skills and Experience:

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Qualified Surgical First Assistant (SFA) with proven scrub experience.
  • Confident and competent across multiple surgical specialities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
