Job summary

Myticas Consulting in Ottawa, Ontario, seeks a Senior RF Test Engineer to develop and maintain system verification plans for satellite communication systems. You will lead test planning and test activities across vendors and partners, maintaining the lab and ensuring readiness for diverse RF tests.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with Ka-band antennas, DVB-S2(X)/DVB-RCS2, RF test equipment, and cross-team collaboration to validate performance and compliance.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering with 20+ years of relevant experience in satellite communications.
• Hands-on RF test equipment experience (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, satellite channel emulator).
• Experience with DVB-S2(X) / DVB-RCS2 modulation and coding.
• Experience with Jira / Jama for defect tracking.

Responsibilities

• Issue recommendations and influence system verification and validation.
• Coordinate with Antenna Vendors to support SOW, SRR, test plans, results and reviews; integrate Antenna with Modem and interfaces.
• Develop internal Test Plans and verification methods with other segments.
• Support OTA Test Planning and test automation activities.
• Support System Acceptance Planning for LEOP and IOT.
• Coordinate RF and system-level testing: planning, execution and reporting.
• Serve as RF expert and support other staff as needed.
• Participate in component and subsystem design and test activities.
• Configure test equipment (Satellite Link Emulators, signal generators, spectrum analyzers).
• Ensure product under test meets requirements and lab remains current.

Job description

The Senior RF Test Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining system verification and validation plans of the communication system. In addition, they will participate in the various testing activities across systems with vendors and other partners and responsible for maintaining the lab.

Main Responsibilities

• In this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the system verification and validation.
• Work with various Antenna Vendors to support the SOW, SRR, Test Requirements, Test Plans, Test Results and RVTM reviews, in addition to follow up on the integrate of the Antenna with the other components (Modem, and other interfaces).
• Work with the other segments to support the development of the internal Test Plans and verification methods.
• Support Over The Air (OTA) Test Planning and activities including the Test automation processes.
• Support System Acceptance Planning activities for the LEOP and IOT.
• Develop system and sub system verification matrices against system requirements
• Coordinate and participate in RF and system level testing activities including test planning, execution and reporting
• Serve as an RF expert and support other technical staff as required
• Plays an active role in component and subsystem design and test activities
• Configuring test equipment like Satellite Link Emulators, signal generator, spectrum analyzer etc.
• Ensure product under test meets technical, functional, performance and business requirements
• Keep the lab functional and update to date with known hardware and software configuration to execute various test scenarios as necessary
• Work with partners and other vendors in various test campaigns

Education & Experience Required

• B. S or M.S.in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in satellite communications
• 10+ years of work experience in different antenna types like Flat Panel Antenna, Parabolic and Aero Antenna (Ka band preferable)
• 10+ years of work experience in Satellite RF communication systems with strong exposure on modulation and coding used in modern standards like DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2
• Hands on experience using RF test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, satellite channel emulator)
• Strong understanding of RF engineering Principles and Design Practices
• Demonstrated understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation and coding and its impact on the satellite link performance
• Experience with satellite link budget analyses with good understanding of effects of impairments on the link performance
• Experience in test case and defect tracking tools (Jira, Jama)
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with different Ka band antenna vendors
• Experience with Flat Panel Antenna and Aero Antenna (Ka band preferable)
• Experience with BUC/LNB and various Antenna technologies
• Experience in Planning activities for the LEOP and IOT.
• Proficient with MATLAB, python.
• Highly collaborative team player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary Range - $95,000 - $135,000 ,
