About the Opportunity
Revenue Accounting & Revenue Close (40%)
- You will serve as the primary operational owner of the monthly revenue accounting process.
- Preparing monthly revenue-related journal entries
- Maintaining deferred revenue roll forwards
- Preparing contract asset and contract liability schedules
- Reconciling or reviewing revenue-related balance sheet accounts
- Performing revenue analytics and month-over-month variance analysis
- Supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close requirements
- Ensuring complete and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
- Maintaining supporting documentation and audit-ready workpapers
- You will identify unusual transactions, understand the underlying business drivers, and proactively resolve issues before they impact financial reporting.
Contract Review & ASC 606 Application (10-15%)
- You will review customer agreements and evaluate the accounting implications of software subscriptions, SaaS arrangements, professional services, implementation services, renewals, upsells, expansions, contract amendments, and multi-element arrangements.
- You will be expected to:
- Identify performance obligations
- Analyze standalone selling prices (SSP)
- Evaluate contract modifications
- Assess revenue recognition timing
- Determine appropriate allocations under ASC 606
- Escalate complex technical matters when necessary
- The ideal candidate understands that revenue accounting is much more than booking entries—it starts with understanding how contracts are structured and how commercial decisions impact accounting outcomes.
Order-to-Cash (O2C) Process Ownership (10-15%)
- This role will help ensure alignment between contracts, billing, revenue recognition, collections support, and general ledger reporting.
- Reviewing customer setup accuracy
- Monitoring billing process integrity
- Identifying revenue leakage risks
- Supporting collection and invoicing issue resolution
- Documenting process gaps
- Driving operational improvements
Commission Ownership (5%)
- This role will review and own the commission process, with support from Staff Accountant.
- Reviewing direct and channel commission calculations
- Reviewing reconciliations for commission related accounts
- Ensuring accurate recording of commissions, aligned with ASC 606
- Supporting Staff Accountant with Sales Operations and HR coordination to ensure commission accuracy and on-time payment, as needed
Systems, Automation & Process Improvement (20%)
- We expect this individual to be a builder. A significant portion of the role will involve identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through process redesign and automation.
- Maximizing existing NetSuite functionality
- Supporting NetSuite ARM processes and improvements
- Reducing spreadsheet dependencies
- Creating scalable workflows
- Improving revenue close efficiency
- Improving data quality and reporting accuracy
- Participating in future ERP or revenue tooling initiatives
Sales Tax, VAT & Compliance Coordination (15%)
- Sales Tax
- Support administration of Avalara
- Review filing support and reporting
- Maintain exemption certificate documentation
- Assist with nexus tracking activities
- Support tax audits and notices
VAT / GST
- Coordinate with local compliance providers
- Gather supporting information
- Validate reporting outputs
- Ensure timely filing support
Corporate Tax Support
- Coordinate with external tax preparers
- Provide revenue schedules and supporting documentation
- Support annual income and franchise tax compliance processes
- Assist with information requests during tax preparation and audits
About You
- CPA designated or in final stages of obtaining designation
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, revenue accounting
Salary Range
$105,000 - $125,000/year
You must currently reside within the Greater Calgary Area and be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
Individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
